positive at home fit test and low ferritin

Hi,

I am awaitng my NHS FIT test to come in the post but I'm worried so I bought an at home test which has come back positive today. It was the SELFCHECK Bowel FIT Type Health Test on Amazon.
I have chronically for the last year had very low ferritin but no periods due to contraception.
Am I likely to get a false positive on the at-home tests? I bought it to reassure me but now I'm more worried!

Thanks

The cut-off for a positive result with the SELFCHECK Bowel Health Test is greater than 30µg Hb/g faeces. This is more sensitive than most NHS FIT screening tests (80 to 150µg/g). The more sensitive a test is, the more likelihood of a false positive result.

Yes, you could have had a false positive result. But to me it seems unlikely that any doc would dismiss the finding, especially with a low ferritin. I'm not a doc, but my guess is that you will be referred for further evaluation, which would be the safe thing to do.

I think you can contact the SELFCHECK people directly for more information about the test itself. https://www.selfchecktests.com/contact

I hope everything resolves quickly and easily for you.
