Would you go to Gp with tonsils like this? *gross pic*

I’ve been feeling unwell and have had a sore throat for around 48hrs. I’ve been gargling corsodyl, have diflam and painkillers. My throat when swallowing feels like it’s being sliced with razors, it kept me awake last night. I’m so wiped out and shivery (no respiratory symptoms)

I have had tonsillitis many many times and it’s always cleared up very quickly with antibiotics. But it’s so hard to get them… and it’s so so so hard to get a gp appt where I live.

I’m not sure these are bad enough yet. I don’t have the energy to battle with a Gp receptionist (and I will have to). Also my colleague is on holiday for two weeks starting tmrw so the pressure is on me to perform under a great deal of pressure at work. I can’t really ring in sick. It doesn’t help that I’ve been solo parenting two small DC all weekend 😭

okay okay I’m just fishing for sympathy now.

but would you bother trying to get ABs with this?

You can get AB's directly from a pharmacy now for tonsillitis. Do you have a 24hr one nearby? I'd get on some sooner rather than later...oh and you can call in sick if you're not well enough. You are more important than work!

shellyleppard · 02/06/2024 18:08

Ouch that looks soooo sore 😭😭 can you ring 111?? Sending 💐

I did not know that ! (Pharmacists) Problem is I’m home alone with two small DC and actually feel to unwell to drive (it’s about 25 miles) so couldn’t go this eve. Maybe I could go in the morning.

I really wouldn't work tomorrow if you're too unwell to drive to the pharmacy😔could you take some Paracetamol and then go whilst it's not too late?

I've had tonsillitis so many times. Doctors don't like to prescribe antibiotics for it. It could be caused by a bacterial infection or a viral infection. If the latter, antibiotics won't fix it.
Bacterial infections do tend to get better by themselves, just takes a bit extra time which is rubbish. But it saves you having to go to get pills that might only reduce illness time by a day.

Swollenandgrouchy · 02/06/2024 18:20

Can your tonsils ooze pus if it’s viral? I have read conflicting things about white spots.

Sending love OP. Tonsillitis it awful. Had it 3 times in the past month. If you can get yourself some diflam mouthwash from the pharmacy its honestly amazing stuff! Helped me a lot with the pain alongside the antibiotics and pain relief.
If you're not well enough to work don't over do it. Will take even longer to recover.
I hope you can get some antibiotics and feel better soon.

coffeewithmilk · 02/06/2024 18:27

OP they actually look like tonsil stones (build up of debris)
If you are able to do it without gagging then get a cotton ear bud and try push that stuff out away from the tonsil
If it comes back after it's gone then you need antibiotics as it could be pus

Swollenandgrouchy · 02/06/2024 18:33

Definitely pus - it’s soft. I’ve cleaned it off with a cotton wool bud soaked in corsadyl and they came straight back. I do get tonsils stones too so am very familiar with them (unfortunately).

I wouldn't I suffer badly from tonsillitis and I always have visible pus. I would never go to the GP for antibiotics before 5 days of tonsillitis unless it was so bad I was drooling as that is a sign on quincy. I have felt terrible before but it normally is improving by day 5.

I've had tonsillitis alongside flu and they had loads of pus then. I'm sure it was viral and a symptom of the flu.

Did you get sorted?
