I posted last week about a strange feeling in my leg , it seems to have got increasingly worse the last couple of days, to the point were no one can touch it. Its really burning from the back of my buttock down to my toes. It feels numb like after being injected with novacaine. I havent yet been to gp , but several people have said it sounds like sciatica. Anyone know what sciatica is like ? What can I do to relieve it ?? Nurofen or paracetomal do nothing to take this odd feeling away. Hot baths seem to help vey marginally , (seems more to relax me than relieve it alot). I will be going to Gp as soon as they are open again on Tues, I also going to see an osteopath for some help.

Rosies I dont think shes a spiritual healer as such, she's just in tune with that side of life and eastern philsophies in treating people. Why do you ask ? , are you interested in that combination of practionning as such ??

Do you think swimming is ok for this condition ??

may be swimming wasnt the best idea right now, it was starting to ease a bit and now its come back, not sure if thats because havent taken analgesics today, as have been last 48hrs or from crouching in training pool. Back on them tonight, no wine for me now and a bit feddid up bout that. I thought a bit of excercise would help. Sorry to hear of other sufferers.

I had sciatic pain for years that never got better, despite GP, osteopaths etc.

Finally saw a sports physiotherapist who diagnosed repeated spasm of the piriformis muscle (high in the butt). I got some pretty painful treatment to release/relax it and it's been fabby ever since. I also got a specific stretch to do. It occasionally flares up, but the physio always sorts it out. She says it's a very common complaint that GPs almost always fail to diagnose!

i only had it twice during my pregnancy, the first one i nearly threw up cos the pain was unbearable from bum down to back of leg. i was 7 months preg. i was rushing around for couple of days and midwife advised me to go swimming, the same day i thought im too knackered to go swimming with the pain so i relaxed & did not move for a whole night and the following day it went all together. teh next time it came it was only a small one from sitting in the car seat too long.

I got sciatica from sleeping on my friend's camp bed! If you haven't got anything from the docs yet, try volterol gel (which is diclofenac but in gel form) and rub onto the affected area, and Cuprofen ibuprofen tablets. As advised by the chemist I had to go and see.

And, as a qualifed reflexologist (with the AOR as it happens, although nothing against any other organisation ) I too, would also recommend this therapy... but of course I would!
