urinary infection in DS ...in a bit of a panic

ok going to blurt this out her and hoefully calm down a bit...

DS ( age 4) went for a wee this morning and said his winky (penis) hurt.. it was a bit red on the end so we put a daub of cream on it and went about the day.. at 11;30 ran the bath for him.. as he has a cold and thought it would help him feel better as he loves bath time... he sat on the toilet to do his wee and when he wiped himself and hopped off there were drops of blood, and the foreskin was enflamed and bleeding a bit...

cue me being in panic mode... called DH then called NHS direct... the nurse has called me back and says it is most likly a urinary infection... lots of questions made me feel in a fluster and I was crying a bit.. I hate that I couldn't stop it... waiting for the on call doc to call sometime today..

to top it off earlier int he week went to doc as DS has a rash on his chest the doc said was molluscum contagiosum (sp?).... did I mention we go on holiday tommrow?

I'm just upset and stressed.. shite week...

Ah bless him. He has had it over this last week hasnt he

I would presume the blood would be from the crytals in the urine which may have scratched him as he weed.

Lots of water, cranberry juice and cuddles

meridian · 05/04/2008 13:34

thanks NBG.. I feel like a right idiot... I'm one of those that starts crying and cant stop... and it was jsut such a shock to see the blood.. specially with everyone having had colds and everything being genrally rubbish...

Poor you - its a nightmare when you are trying to get ready for holiday isn't it? Try to get him to drink as much water as you can possibly get down him. That will make weeing easier as urine will be more diluted. Hope doctor calls soon

Nbg · 05/04/2008 13:39

Oh I know exactly how you feel.

I'm terrible when any of the kids are ill.
I remember sobbing uncontrolably when dd had a sickness bug.
I cant stop myself.

Dh says I should toughen up to this parenting lark but its horrid to see them poorly.

FWIW I have a duplex kidney which makes me more prone to UTI's and I've had a fair few in my time.
But once he gets some Anti B's he'll feel alot better after 24 hours so hopefully he'll feel ok for your flight.

meridian · 05/04/2008 13:54

thank you... feel a bit better... tears have stopped for now.. DS seems fine in himself... is laying on the sofa next to me with his feet propped up in my lap..

just hope the doc calls quick so i can get some Abs for him to get him better as quick as possible... i feel so helpless

{{{Hugs}}} hon, hope the doc is on the case soon, its the local on call doc right? not some random Dr in a call centre somewhere?
Its natural to have a blub, that's what being a mum is all about

meridian · 05/04/2008 14:07

frizbe- thanks.. yes its supposed to be the local on call doc...but who knows when i will get a call... its been an hour now...

Just wanted to say I had something similar with MS1 (3) last week.

His penis sort of bulged a bit when he wee'd then 30 mins later screaming that he was in agony and his willie was hurting. He had an infection in his tail, possibly as he has just started to go to the loo independantly or because he fiddles too much.

The anti'bs cured it in one day.

vInTaGeVioLeT · 05/04/2008 16:20

oh Meri - i'm sure the anti-b's will make it better in no time it is always a worry to see blood no wonder you cried - hey it's always stressfull going away once your on that plane you can relax and have a great time with your family

Miaou · 05/04/2008 16:26

meri, hope everythings ok, have a {{{{{hug}}}}} - hopefully as madhouse says it will be sorted very quickly

meridian · 05/04/2008 19:41

ok all is well and sorted.. not a urinary infection but an irrtation and infection of the foreskin, and the tissue is inflamed and knitting together so have some anti-b cream to put on it and it has to be stretched back in place... basically he has to play with it the opposite of what all mothers tell their little boys... poor mite

thank you everyone for helping me to feel better...

phew. . . . so now you can nag him to play with his winkie!!! i sound like a broken record here "leave your penis alone" and "fgs leave it alone will you"!!!!!

lucykate · 05/04/2008 22:42

oh no, poor thing, good to get it seen to before you set off on holiday, you wouldn't want him wriggling in pain on the plane!

emma1977 · 05/04/2008 23:58

Awww....poor thing.

Most little boys don't usually need much encouragement to fiddle with their winkies!

meridian · 06/04/2008 07:59

thank you everyone... he says he feels better this morning.. so going to shove him into a savlon bath while we finish last bits of packing and put the suitcases in the car...

lovely morning... blue sky and snow
