Thyroxine and chronic reflux/pain in chest

I have just started take 25mcg of Thyroxine, recently had thyroidectomy (apparently some tissue left and still working). I have awful reflux and chest pains. I know it’s the thyroxine because I stopped it for 3 days and didn’t get pain. My Endo said keep going for 2 weeks and see if it improves. I’m really struggling, lansoprazole and gaviscon not helping at all. Anyone experience this? I’m so miserable, eating plain foods and tiny portions.

Hi op are you waiting for an hour between taking the levothyroxine and having food??? I had mine out six years ago and i still get some pain but not as bad?? Good luck x i have a to avoid caffeine till after lunch Lol

I didn't have that but I did have massive hot flushes that went away after two or three weeks so it is worth giving your body a chance to get used to things.

Are you taking it on an empty stomach and not drinking any tea or coffee for an hour after?

Allenabc · 24/05/2024 20:10

Yes I’m taking it as soon as I wake up. No food or drink for an hour. Then the heartburn and pain starts and lasts all day, driving me mad. I tried Apple cider vinegar but it gave me diarrhoea. Is this how the rest of my life is going to be? Totally fed up

It did get better for me. I don’t have to take omeprozole all the time now. Just have flare ups.

Give it a couple of weeks.

Thank you Fatotter, I’m so down and this site has been invaluable for me since my thyroid op. I just hope it gets better.
