Weird brain symptoms…now I’m panicking

For the last 2 months I’ve had around 12 episodes of the weirdest brain thing…suddenly out of nowhere I get a strange Deja vu feeling, then it’s as if I’m remembering a dream but can’t quite recall it. Then I feel like every thought has dropped out of my head & I can’t think. This lasts for a couple of minutes. Then I get a dull pounding headache which lasts for hours. I’ve had an eye exam, all ok. Saw GP today & he’s referring me to neurology for a scan, so now I’m really panicking. It’s really hard to describe the episodes, just wondering if anyone has had anything similar.

Don’t panic!! I know it’s hard not to but I had very very similar symptoms in October 2022 and promise I’m still here alive and kicking!

Mine turned out to be epilepsy - which I would bet yours is too. The Deja vu and the confusion with the post-ictal headache are really really common for focal aware seizures.

Do you have any other symptoms? Like a rushing feeling, or your stomach dropping like you’re going on a rollercoaster?

The likelihood is the scan will be clear, that’s fine. Your neuro might start you on Keppra which is the base point med for seizures. But obviously always a possibility it’ll throw something up. But again, try not to panic.

Here if you have any questions at all - obviously I’m not medically trained but live with seizures every day so will help if I can.

Thanks so much for your reply!
Yes, I did wonder about epilepsy but I’m 56 and never had anything like this before.
I don’t have any stomach dropping feelings or anything, just this really odd sensation of half remembering a dream along with Deja vu. And I blank out mentally for a few minutes.
My GP says I’m on an urgent referral to the ‘first fit clinic’ so hopefully I’ll find out more soon.
Thanks again for your positive response! X
