smear test tomorrow and a bit worried. Don't read if you don't want TMI

So, have had very heavy periods for quite a while, complete with clots (nice!). Various GPs have given me tranexemic acid for the bleeding, which helps, but last GP i saw is concerned that it could be fibroids/cysts/something else. So, am having smear test tomorrow and need to make appt for an interal (even nicer). Haven't been worried at all, as haven't had any other symptoms. But just this week, have got some blood in amongst my normal discharge (did warn you re TMI). Not spotting nor full bleeding, just traces of blood. But my stomach feels very heavy. Are these symptoms of something nasty? It's a long wait for the smear test results, just want to start preparing myself for the possibilities.

It's good (not the right word, hope you know what I mean tho') that your GP is concerned. I had the same symptoms and it was caused by an ovarian cyst. I went thru hell, thinking it was something nasty but as my gynae told me, the really nasty stuff tends to be symptomless. I hope I haven't scared you, but if you want any more info, let me know.

Take care.

Thanks SubRosa. What was the treatment? (hope you're ok now)

Hi,

Yes, I'm recovered now thanks - I had to have a laparotomy as it was a big cyst

At the moment, I have to take Duphaston, as my heavy bleeding seems to be caused by too much oestrogen (and not enough progesterone).

Has your GP ordered any blood tests, to check hormone levels, etc?

SubRosa · 04/04/2008 14:02

Damn, I pressed 'send' too early, meant to say hope it goes ok today.

lilolilmanchester · 04/04/2008 17:14

yes, had all the blood tests. Slightly low iron levels was the only thing that came back. Had smear today, the cervix bled when the nurse did it. Was hoping the on duty doctor would be able to do an internal at the same time but it was a dishy young male and the nurse suggested I make a separate appointment with a female Dr. so will do that. but don't havea good feeling about this I'm afraid.

I wish I could say something to help, as it's the not knowing that really eats at you. (Stating the obvious...) I won't say don't worry, as I put myself through hell, thinking the worst.

Will you be able to get an appt with the female doc soon?

Take care.

Thanks SubRosa. Will ring to make an appointment on monday, didn't have my diary with me on Fri and couldn't remember when my period was due (brain a bit mushy at the mo),

You're welcome. Look after yourself

lilolilmanchester · 21/04/2008 11:44

Hi Subrosa, thought I'd give you an update...had an internal exam, GP couldn't feel anything and is satisfied there's no major fibroids etc. She did say the only way to be 100% sure is to have a scan, she'll refer me if i want but no urgency to do so. Fingers crossed for smear test result also!

smear results back in double quick time and appears normal. Thanks for your support. And a word of encouragement to anyone reading this with suspected problems, I'm ok as it turns out, but i know only full well how scarey it is putting yourself through tests etc and convincing yourself that something really bad's happening. Please do go and have tests, hopefully all will be ok but if not, at least necessary treatment can start asap and give you best chance of resolving the issues.
