Can anyone have a look at this EKG??

Hi
DS has been given a Kardia EKG monitor to use at home for the next month.
We've been trying it out at today but the tracings are saying unreadable.

Can anyone have a look and tell him if it looks ok or if maybe the device is faulty?

Thanks

I can't read an EKG but I know that the device has very specific instructions - sit very still, certain position, away from other devices, etc.

Here is the troubleshooting guide from their website. Maybe it will help.

just looks like there's movement artefact. Is it the jobby you put your fingertips on? Was he keeping still & keeping the pressure on the pads steady?

SeaToSki · 12/05/2024 20:10

If its unreadable its because he isnt sitting still enough and/or relaxing the muscles in his hands and forearms. The only way I can get a clear reading is by sitting at a table with my forearms completely supported and just lightly resting my fingertips on the sensors.

why was he given a kardia?

lilaloves · 12/05/2024 20:22

He was sitting still, forearms resting on the table etc, the cardiac did explain to him that he needed to still stll.
He was given the Kardia to try and catch an episode of SVT as he's had a holter before.

I'll get him to try again and relax his arms a bit and see if that helps.

Your EKG is definitely not okay. I really hope that these are errors of the device. The graph should be clear, I mean the lines of the graph. But it's best to go to the hospital for the authenticity of the experiment. I once studied medical EKG readings with my friend when she was studying to be a doctor, and I remember for sure that the EKG chart should not be the same as in your photos...

Anyone else with any experience?

I'm thinking possibly just an issue with the device.
His heart rate wasn't high and he felt fine during the tracing.
I'll email the tracing on to Cardiologist but they said to only send if he's having an SVT episode.

Thanks

The wobbling baseline is artefact, not his heart rhythm. Whether the artefact is because he’s moving or the machine is having a wobbly is impossible to tell online. If he still can’t get an interpretable rhythm strip with better posture/staying still etc then it’s probably talking to whoever supplied it to see if they have any ideas/a different machine/would suggest an ‘old fashioned’ tape with stickers on the chest.

He has had the more traditonal style holter monitor previously.
He was given the Kardia to try and catch an episode over a month.

Yes, I would agree that it's possibly down to him moving but he is 15 so hooefully he can keep still next time!

Thanks for your help

Me again
Ok, so the tracings are still looking crazy. This one is all over the place.
I'm pretty sure it's the device ?
I've emailed this latest trace over to Dr last week but no reply.
My son only has this device for 4 weeks so I don't really want to waste that time with a dodgy monitor.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
