This purple spot appeared on my hand all of a sudden. Does anyone have any experience?

I think you need to see your gp and get referred to dermatology. I am sure/ hope it is fine but not all skin cancers are the typical changing mole which is more common.
I really don’t mean to worry you and most likely it is nothing much but I would rather you felt a bit worried than you don’t take prompt action just in case. And even if it is skin cancer the vast majority are only spreading locally and easily removed.
Don’t be fobbed off. My initial useless gp told me to ignore my skin cancer originally so I left it for six months before going back and luckily saw a locum who actually saw it as warranting investigation.

Hey, I’m seeing a dermatologist on the 20th for an unrelated issue but I’m so worried!

Well that is good timing. Useless to say don't worry too much I know but whatever it is or isn't that needs checking promptly by an expert.
If (and a big if) it is skin cancer feel free to message me if I can be of any use as I have been there and still wearing the t shirt.

Difficult to tell because the pic isn't in focus but any new lesion/mole needs to be evaluated.

I've had a lesion checked out recently that I noticed on the back of my calf. The GP looked at it through a dermascope (think that's what it's called) and said it wasn't suspicious but to keep an eye on it. I was in and out in five minutes.
