What was it? Sudden stomache pain and upper/ mid back ache

Last night I was sitting on the sofa in the evening, roughly two hours after eating dinner I had Sudden stomache pain almost cramp like and at the same time and upper / mid back ache. It felt so bad I laid on the floor, then tried to go to bed, it felt worse on my side and the pain meant I couldn’t sleep for hours, it went on for about 6 hours and then I woke up this morning, a bit of residual back pain and that was it. I am completely flummoxed on what this is. Weirdly about a month ago I had the same type of stomache pain but not back pain, as quickly as it came it went again. Anyone have any idea?! Is it bad indigestion, or something else?! I wasn’t constipated just to add!

Gallbladder attack? Was it on the right side?

cherryassam · 10/05/2024 23:22

I would also suspect gallbladder attack

PhuckyNell · 10/05/2024 23:25

Yes gallbladder or really bad heartburn

wellington77 · 10/05/2024 23:26

It was in the middle of the stomache, does that matter if it’s hall bladder?

Gallbladder. Worth getting it looked at OP! I’m sorry you experienced it - I had it a few weeks after giving birth and I would absolutely take labour pain over gallbladder pain. A horrible thing.

loropianalover · 10/05/2024 23:27

Google gallbladder attack and see if that resonates with you. 3 family members have had gallbladder issues and all of them agree it was worse than labour.

Gas/trapped wind pain can also be horrific and radiate to the back. People underestimate how painful it can be.

Gallbladder. I have gallstones and my first ever attack was exactly as you describe. It does radiate to your upper back and can be excruciating. It's the worst pain I've ever felt. I thought I was having a heart attack. It starts in me upper stomach in the V shape of your abdomen in between boobs and goes all the way around like a tight band. Also, I get sharp pain in right side.

It does sound like gallstones. I thought I was dying when mine came in suddenly. Your gallbladder kicks in when you have a lot of food to digest so a while after eating sounds about right in my experience.

Some people get an attack or two and then nothing for years. Some get them more persistently. It gets diagnosed by an ultrasound scan.

Panpastels · 10/05/2024 23:32

I've had my gallbladder removed and this sounds very much like a gallstone attack. Mine always came on at night, and more likely if I had eaten a larger meal than normally, or rich/high fat content.

Is it related to being post Partum as I gave birth 6 weeks ago? Thank you for your responses

Obviously you need proper medical advice, but my gallstones was triggered by pregnancy.

Pregnancy can trigger gallstones, you definitely need to speak to doc and have scans if you are so soon post partum.

ScribblingPixie · 10/05/2024 23:58

Def get checked out at the GP. In the meantime, go easy on fatty food. And think about whether you ate a lot of high-fat food before each of the two attacks. Or a trigger food like eggs.

Thank you guys. I will definitely go to the drs on Monday. And yes I was eating something fatty yesterday evening- a macdonalds!
