What is 'Restricted Stock' medication? (Supply issues, not a controlled drug)

One of my repeat prescriptions has been out of stock for several months. The pharmacist told me it's currently a 'Restricted Stock' medicine due to supply issues. My GP didn't seem sure what to do except wait. I tried an alternative but it's not working as well and I'm scared I'll end up struggling to work.

Does anyone know if pharmacies or GPs decide the priority of patients who get 'Restricted Stock' medicines? I don't know if I need to chase GP or if it's just a general term for supply issues.
