sore tummy button in older baby

My DD (9 month) has red and slightly weepy tummy button. I have cleaned it with cotton wool but this seems to make it worse. It doesnt seem to be bothering her but any suggestions?

Fill it with vaseline at night - wash it out the next night in the bath and re-apply!

Should be better in no time.
