17 weeks pg with a stinking cold - remedies anyone?

Morning, I have the most terrible cold in the world (or that's what it feels like). I have a headache, blocked up nose, bit of a sore throat, slightly swollen glands.

Being 17 weeks pg does anyone know what I can take? Normally I'd dose myself up with some extra strong lemsip and sleep it off, but have been told that I should try to avoid paracetamol.

The other problem is that I can't just sleep it off without any drugs either as I feel worse lying down!

Can anyone advise?

Scraggy

Why have you been told to avoid paracetamol. Normally paracetmol is a drug that is considered ok for use in preg. Use it only when you really need it (like now) but using it for a few days should be fine. This is of course unless you have some special circumstances with you health other that preg and have been told not to use it for this reason.

Also you could make yourself a hot lemon drink with some fresh squeezed lemon in hot water. Can be soothing without containing the decongestant drugs that chemist powders contain.

Both paracetamol and ibuprofen are safe in pregnancy except that ibuprofen should not be taken in the last trimester.

I used to take soluble paracetamol in hot ribena. Kind of like the blackcurrant "lemsips". Utting your head over a steaming bowl of water with Karvol in it is good too.

My friend used to always drink orange juice, warmed up and sweetened with honey when she had a cold. She said it was really soothing and helped clear the cold.
My mum recommends rubbing points on your face, in particular your sinuses - she knows quite a lot about reiki. I can't get hold of her at the moment for any more info but maybe somebody else may know something about that?

Thank you all so much! I am going to get myself down to Boots and get sthg I can dissolve - the hot ribena version sounds good!
