I can't stop thinking about this poor boy and want to appeal for people to join the bone marrow donor register

Whist browsing the newspapers online this morning I came across this articlewww.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/femail/article.html?in_article_id=553249&in_page_id=1879 and can't stop thinking about the plight of Jamie Zammit.

My dh and I have been talking about joining the bone marrow donor register for a while now and hadn't yet got round to it but seeing this article has really brought home what a difference it could potentially make and has decided us that we must get on and do it straight away.

I have started this thread in the hopes that it may encourage others, who are in a postition to do so, to think about joining too - they especially need male donors aged between 18 and 40 and those from different ethnic backgrounds.
You can find out more information at

If you give blood, you can ask the blood service to become a bone marrow donor.

They take some extra vials of blood to 'type' or something like that, and there are some forms to sign, and then you are on the bone marrow register.

I was told that hospitals always search BOTH the anthony nolan AND the national blood service registers for potential donors, so there is no need to be registered for both.
