Long term chest pain, cough, doc has no idea

I wondered if anyone has any advice?

My DH has had chest pain for about 4 months as well as a cough. He went to the doctor and had blood tests and a chest X ray as well as the doctor listening with a stethoscope. Only thing flagged was very low B12.

Doctor has no idea and said that it might just be a pulled muscle in his chest but that doesn't fit with the cough and 4 months is a long time.

I am trying to encourage DH to go back and ask for a second opinion but I don't really know what sort of thing might be the issue or what sort of specialist he should ask to see. DH is the sort who generally just soldiers on so the fact he says it hurts must mean it really hurts.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

My partner has been the same. Coughing since January, A&E when he’d pulled a muscle but thought he’d broken a rib. He’s been in so much pain. Initially he was treated for a chest infection which took an age to shift. He was referred for a CT scan and was told the scan shows mild emphysema.

Definitely try and get him to go back. That's gone on too long.

Did they do an ECG?

Could be a hiatus hernia if not cardiac related.

No, no ECG, only the X ray.

Thanks, everyone. I will keep encouraging him to go back.
