okay, have name changed for this one. have had terrible itching down below and backside for sooooo long now and it's really getting unbearable. Saw gp about it about a year ago and she could not identify anything wrong and just told me to use natural yoghurt for front and sudocrem for back to relieve but it doesn't work. Neither does lanacane, anusol or vagisil. Have had backside checked since because of bleeding - had fissure and nothing picked up then either. Do you think I just have sensitive skin and there is a scratch/itch cycle going on? The urge to rub with tissue when I go to the loo is just too much and the itching sometimes keeps me awake at night. Also in the last couple of months I have noticed a cluster of small purple coloured spots down there that look almost like little blood blisters but they could have been there for I don't know how long.......it's not somewhere i see that often IYKWIM. Anyone had this or know what they are?

Piles maybe?

onepieceoflollipop · 01/04/2008 22:28

Get a 2nd opinion - perhaps from another GP in the surgery, or go back to the same one and tell her all the things that haven't worked and the newer symptoms.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/04/2008 22:29

No idea about the spots but are you sure it's not just thrush? I think if it gets bad enough it can affect your backside too. Have you tried diflucan or canesten?

onepieceoflollipop · 01/04/2008 22:29

p.s. the first part of your description sounds like thrush to me (you don't always get a discharge with it - sorry if tmi) but don't know about the spots?

GP could send off swabs to investigate further.

mymatemax · 01/04/2008 22:31

OK i don't have a clue why but I have a cousin (hope she doesn't mn) who swears she can only wear white knickers otherwise she itches like mad. Particularly bad with black apparently.

onepieceoflollipop · 01/04/2008 22:31

x-post with James. [Hi James I occasionally appear on your post natal thread]

Be cautious using Canesten etc if the area is really really sore and there is an unexplained rash/spots. (I have an allergy to Canesten - - I thought it was the thrush getting worse and kept applying more and more)

hippipotami · 01/04/2008 22:32

Are the purple spots in your fanjo or round the back? Cos thems are piles if thems are round the back.

GrinningSoul · 01/04/2008 22:34

i had a v itchy phase and my gp gave my some basic moisturiser as a first try, and it did work really well. Um i think it was diprobase, which you can buy over the counter. it may help break an itch/scratch cycle, at least.

2yearitch · 01/04/2008 22:35

sorry, should have said the spots are on vulva, i do have two small piles (beginning to sound a right bloody mess down there isn't it) i have treated myself and DH for thrush just in case but no changed. Although I do take antibiotics for frequent UTI's and Rosacea so that might be part of the problem. My mum did tell me she had some similar spots before (yes....I've rang my mum and asked too ) and I've googled (naughty I know) and all the things coming up point to them being harmless but think I will go back to gp anyway because I can't sit still with the itching it's driving me mad!

Sounds like a condition called lichen sclerosis.

Ask GP to refer you to gynae or dermatology for second opinion.

It may also be worth asking for a trial of steroid creamto see if that stops the itch.

rachaelsara · 01/04/2008 22:35

Deff get 2nd opinion, then 3rd, then 4th until you get a gp who solves it. Sounds horrible for you.

SalVolatile · 01/04/2008 22:39

sounds like a common fungal skin infection to me that is made worse by repeated scratching - you can check this by using over the counter canestan cream and seeing if it responds - it won't cure it because the anti fungal element of the cream isn't quite right, but it should help improve symptoms. If it does, go back tour Gp and ask to be prescribed an anti-fungal cream with steroid (sorry cant recall name) and that will knock it on the head.

onepieceoflollipop · 01/04/2008 22:41

Antibiotics as most of us probably know can really trigger thrush - it is possible that it never properly clears up and is worse at the moment. Some of the thrush treatments aren't very effective and need more applications/doses. For example the oral tablet isn't as effective as the pessaries (so I have read).

Thanks so much for you replies. I will go back to gp but feel like I live there at the moment, might just be easier to set up camp in the waiting room. However I have changed gps this year because of house move and they are great. Was checked out down there by previous gp who was same gp that told me I was imagining a breast lump although Both DH and I knew it was there. new gp though checked it out and referred me asap and had to have biopsy......all was fine, it was benign but has made me a bit about last surgery IYKWIM. So think I can approach doc about this one without them thinking I'm a pain in the arse?

I'm sure they wouldn't mind you popping in again.

LynetteScavo · 02/04/2008 00:42

I might be wrong, but maybe oral Canestan?

mejon · 02/04/2008 15:10

I had an extremely persistent itchy bottom that I was convinced was piles but normal pile cream had no effect. I eventually gave in and went to the GP who diagnosed a fungal infection (it obviously gets very hot and sweaty down there and if you don't tend to dry properly after a bath or shower that can make matters worse). She gave me some Timodene cream which I think may be the stuff SalVolatile means. The itching stopped almost straight away and the relief was immense!

iloatheironing · 02/04/2008 15:32

persistant itching I had turned out to be an allergy to latex which I add had never been a problem before. Don't know if or what type of contraception you use but could be case if you use condoms or diaphram. It was also suggested that the allergy might also have been to spermicide when I first went to gp. Sorry if this is a bit personal but it was just a thought!!

Twinkie1 · 02/04/2008 15:37

I have this too - Oh god was going to post about it!

Have even been to hospital other side oif country to see a specialist and they can't sort it.

It is worse at night when I itch without knowing I am doing it and much worse when I am hot - bottom did itch until last week as it was the scar tissue from fissure which I have had repaired!

It is not inside by the way but on the outside where hair is!

Is it the same with you 2yearitch - mine started when I was pregnant with DS.

2yearitch · 02/04/2008 19:14

Great to know I'm not the only one that can't sit still!!!!!!!!!! Twinkle, yes it sounds the same (funily enough I do have a fissure that is prone to opening up now and again ) and a few small nicks in bottom - got my DH to have a look - before you all start going I was desparate, thought something really funky might have been going on down there!!!! It at front back and middle and is all external. Bottom is def. the worst but front get's just as bad in the run up to AF . Anyone had the small purple spots like pin head sized blood blisters? They do not appear to be lesions of any sort. Just in case it might be going through anyone's mind it can't be an STI of any sort. DH and I have been together for 11 years and he is perfectly fine down there, it just me with the problem. Since I've had all this itching I've had this itself checked out, smear test, bottom checked about 3 times for fissures and piles and no professional has said 'by the way it also looks like you have this....' or whatever. Also I have had 4 miscarriages, probably 2 of those whilst I have had the itch problem so there has been plently of opportunity for anything skin infection to be picked up wouldn't you think? Maybe I'm just a vert itchy person. My skin generally itches a lot too but nothing like down there.Gos I sound more of a mess every minute! Sorry if TMI

No idea but you must not scratch. Seriously, have you really tried not scratching it? Know it is easier said than done, i had itchy ness down there. Tried hard not to itch, now its gone. Good luck.

Furball · 02/04/2008 20:00

Have you tried washing your knickers and bath towels in something like Surcare and not using fabric conditioner - your washing powder might be adding to the problem as they keep changing the recipe
