Farting blood - go back to GP?

BumProblems101 · 27/04/2024 17:44

So I have coeliac disease, obviously gluten free now. Continue to have abdominal problems, feel bloated, feel that I can’t eat, feel sick. Have been having random stabbing bum pain and blood in stools on and off for over a year.

GP doesn’t seem to care. They did a blood test and said something wasn’t raised so can’t be Crohn’s. They’ve attempted two colonoscopy but I can’t tolerate them so gastro consultant discharged me saying if I wasn’t going to have investigations then they couldn’t do anything. I asked about the pill camera but he said it wouldn’t show Crohn’s up.

i broke wind earlier (sorry) and there was an explosion of pain as I did. Knickers felt wet and I ran to the loo, loads of bright red blood. I don’t feel I have piles or fissures. Is it worth going back to the GP again because they couldn’t seem to care less to be honest and certainly don’t do anything. I don’t know what I should be asking for. I am waiting for a laparoscopy for ? Endometriosis, could it be endometriosis up my back passage? Bum pain is worse when I’m on my period.

Couldn’t you be sedated for the colonoscopy, someone I know was given ketamine. I had it myself when they reset a badly broken wrist, do not remember a thing although I was apparently very compliant.

BumProblems101 · 27/04/2024 18:28

They’ve never offered a sedation. 🤷‍♀️
edited, actually no the last one I did have sedation but still couldn’t tolerate it 🤷‍♀️. It was so long ago!

Ask for a colonoscopy with sedation. You don't have to 'tolerate it'. No way I could of. With sedation it was fine

Floralnomad · 27/04/2024 18:31

You need to bite the bullet and have the colonoscopy

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 27/04/2024 18:38

If they didn’t manage to do a colonoscopy with sedation you need to go back definitely!

Menomeno · 27/04/2024 18:42

You must go to see your GP. As a coeliac, you’re already at much greater risk of bowel cancer. Don’t ignore it. It very well could be a small fissure but it’s not worth risking it. I’m sure they can find a way to do the colonoscopy, even if they have to put you out for it.

Colonoscopy is never great but it’s the only way to know what’s going on.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 27/04/2024 19:06

Ask for heavy sedation. That is what was given to my DD. It's a halfway house between light sedation and general anaesthetic. It was performed by an anaesthetist and she was completely asleep for the proceedure

Upallnight2 · 27/04/2024 19:08

You're going to need the colonoscopy.. they can't help you of they can't see what's going on up there

Fuckitydoodah · 27/04/2024 19:10

Please go back and ask for another colonoscopy. Explain the previous issues you've had one and ask to be completely knocked out. You need to get this investigated. Hopefully, nothing nasty, but you need to know what's going on.

loropianalover · 27/04/2024 19:11

Hun you need to get the c-oscopy

curlupandvanishforever · 27/04/2024 19:13

@BumProblems101 I had exactly this - farting blood and stomach pain, couldn’t tolerate eating anything without running to bathroom or crippling pain. Had a colonoscopy under sedation. Mine was ulcerative proctitis. Hope you get an answer soon.

BumProblems101 · 27/04/2024 19:14

Thanks, will go back armed with photos of the blood which I took today

If you were sedated properly you wouldn't barely know about it.

I had sedation for a dental implant (which is way worse than a colonoscopy (I know as I've had both and I have severe dental phobia!). I can't remember having the implant done at all

Go back and ask for sedation.

WalkingaroundJardine · 27/04/2024 22:41

I have colonoscopies every 5 years due to family history. I am always sedated as it seems to be standard in Australia and there is never an issue with performing the procedure. Due to have another one this year!
Definitely insist on a new colonoscopy with sedation this time. It really is a breeze.

Cattyisbatty · 28/04/2024 06:38

Agree with the others - colonoscopy with strong sedation.

What do you mean by couldn't tolerate it? I was completely sedated for mine so there wasn't anything to tolerate as such. Do you mean you could still feel things or they couldn't do it physically or something else? A colonoscopy is really what you need. It could be from endometriosis, its possible for it to grown through the body, it effecting the bowel isn't unusual and it can end up much further afield than that. If its endometriosis the pill might help, though Im guessing if you're having investigations for endometriosis they would have already told you what might help you.

awopbopaloobopawopbamboom · 28/04/2024 07:00

Are you sure you had colonoscopies or was it a flex sigmoidoscopy? They don't sedate for those usually but you can request it. Colonoscopies aren't fun but I have one every year without sedation, just gas and air, and manage to muddle through.

BumProblems101 · 28/04/2024 07:11

I think they said colonoscopy. I had some form of sedation, a cannula in my arm. Full bowel prep beforehand. But I could feel everything and was in such pain they said they couldn’t continue. 🤷‍♀️. I’m not sure it was full sedation because I had that for the top end endoscopy when I was diagnosed with coeliac disease and I was much more out of it.

I can’t go on the pill for endometriosis due to previous blood clots.
