Weepy ear lobe holes after 25 yrs

I don’t wear earrings often so to stop my holes closing up I’ve started wearing sterling silver studs. I’ve worn these studs lots before. But my holes have become so weepy and crusty, this morning I woke up and there was dry crustiness all the way into the folds behind the ear. This has been happening for a couple of weeks but the holes aren’t sore, red or swollen so I don’t think it’s an infection.
I will take the earrings out but should I use saline, antiseptic or moisturiser on them? It seems so weird for this to happen after such a long time when they were completely healed decades ago.

i would make sure you clean / sanitise your ears and earrings before you put them in.

is it possible you’ve developed an allergy in the time you’ve not been wearing the studs? maybe try gold / something hypoallergenic.

I'd leave them in but bathe in salt water and if it doesn't help then try gold earrings.

That sounds like an allergic reaction. Try a different pair of studs ( there may be nickel in the ones you are wearing) or go for one of the hypoallergenic metals instead

Thank you, I didn’t think of sanitising the earrings but will do if I put those back in!

I didn’t know allergic reactions could be so crusty, I get sore ears from “random metal” earrings so maybe there is nickel or something in the silver ones. I’ll keep doing salt water and try gold ones when my ears look a bit better. Thank you ☺️

Try gold earrings - see if you can tolerate them.

Are the earrings old? They might have nickel in, this happens to me sometimes, I use a drop of lavender oil on the lobes and it clears in no time. I'm fine with modern silver as the regulations now mean the nickel level is much lower but have to take care with old silver.
