Contraception, Implanon Implant ... experiences welcome

I have had the Implanon contraceptive implant since last Sept (after DS3)

Sorry if TMI but I had slight spotting to start with, then no AF until the beginning of March and it has been constantly on and slightly-off since then. Am I going to have 6 months off six months "on"?

I have also put on about 2 stone I am finding it difficult to shift and (although diagnosed as depressed and undergoing treatment) have sudden draining episodes of depression that completely wipe me out.

I would be interested to hear anyone elses experiences.

And should I have it removed(swallowing the pill makes me want to throw up, and I forget to take it, hence DS3, much as I love him I cannot risk another "surprise")?

The bleeding pattern you describe is pretty common and may settle back down to nothing again.
The manuf say there is no evidence of weight gain but in experience a number of people do gain wait, often settles after 6 months. Mood problems are also not uncommon and if isn't getting better after next couple of months then may be worth thinking about change.
The injection tends to be worse for weight than implanon and can also cause similar side effects.

I've got the implant, and didn't seem to have any problems. I've had it for over two years now, and it should be removed just after Christmas.

But, I have had mood swings and wieght gain, but it's better than having another child.

I didn't bleed at all until 6months ago, when it lasted about 4days, and then again about 2months ago.

HTH

Hi.

I fit loads of Implanons in practice. Irregular bleeding is a very common side effect, which usually settles spontaneously. However, if it is problematic and you want to keep the implant, then using the pill for a few months as well can calm it down.

Weight gain is unusual but can happen in a small minority, as can mood changes- they are common problems with all forms of progesterone-based contraceptives, so you may have a similar problem with the mini-pill, mirena coil and depo.

I suggest that you have a chat with whoever fitted it for you about whether to continue or try an alternative method.

Hi - I got it put in about 4/5 mnths ago and have pretty much been bleeding ever since (harsh !!!!)
Bleeding has just started to slow down so hoping it will stop now.
Have been a bit moody and a few headaches but didn't really putthis down to the implant
