Has anyone had any experience of bone marrow transplants?

I feel so helpless, my mum was told a few months ago that she would have to have a bone marrow transplant to cure a very rare blood disorder she has called aplastic anaemia and I have just discovered that I cannot donate my bone marrow even if I was a match (I had skin cancer many years ago and this apparantly rules me out). I knew it was a long shot anyway but I kind of imagined that I would be a match and I could help her to cure herself of this disorder but now I feel useless, I wish there was something I could do!

Has anyone else any experience of bone marrow transplants or aplastic anaemia? How long did the patient have to wait for a donor to be found and what was the outcome?
Thanks

bumping for you...

...and I'm sure you're anything but useless, in so many ways, to your Mum. I understand the helplessness, but having a supportive daughter is SO much - you may not be a bone marrow donor, but you are that. ALl good wishes to your Mum, and a hug to you.
