Calpol - dangerous?

My dad just told me something about paracetamol being dangerous for the under-2s, and that it shouldn't be available now without asking for it at the pharmacy.

Is this so?

Or are we a million years behind the times and everyone knew about this ages ago?

I think some of these could still be available as prescription meds - as that document talks about them being removed as Over the counter products.

OTOH it does say license is being revoked for under 2s which I guess will also preclude it's use as a prescribed drug.

I guess GPs have stronger meds available on prescription anyway.

We were recommended to use Medised rather than Calpol by our GP for DD when she was under 1yo as she had constant ear infections and we were up with her for hours a night for months on end. It was the only thing which helped her to sleep through, although the sedative effect wore off when she was older probably because she'd had it quite a lot. Luckily the ear thing got better that year and when it came back it didn't keep her up at night
