is the norovirus still doing the rounds?

Hi, i'm not sure if i would be classed an emetophobe but i do really fear being sick, i dread the kids being ill, not because i have to clean up the sick but more so because i'm terrified that i'll catch it. I quite regularly ask my DD if anyone has been sick at nursery and if i hear anyone talking about stomach bugs then i worry for days that i might catch it.

Well my fear has been realised, my 14 month old DS started being sick last night at 1am, swiftly followed by three really messy nappies. He was violently sick the first time and then proceeded to bring up bile every 20 minutes or so all through the night. I'm still breastfeeding him so ihave been giving him feeds quite regularly, sometimes he keeps it down other times its back up within half an hour or so. The last episode was at 2 o'clock. He is really lethargic and miserable and just wanting to sleep, he also feels quite hot. Not sure if it would be a good idea to give him calpol or not. My main concern is that this could be the norovirus, and i'm so scared that i'll come down with it that i've hardly eaten anything all day. I know thats really silly but i can't help it.

So just wondering if anyone knows whether the norovirus is still about. Thanks for any replies.

Ds2 started puking at 5pm last night, then ds1 at 3am. DS2 and ds1 haven't been anywhere together the last few days so I think ds2 must have given it to ds1 (ie it must be a really quick incubation). DS3 and I have come out with sudden colds during the night. Some viruses can cause colds and/or vomming so I figure (hope) we've got the cold rather than the puke.

actually that might be bollocks. Sure I read it somewhere once but now can;t find it. I like to believe it though

Some stomach bugs do tend to only infect children though (know that's true as just read it). Convince yourself it's one of those.

hi, thanks for the prompt reply. How are your DS's today? Did they vomit quite a lot and did they have a high temperature?

ds1 puked once. ds2 repeatedly. DS2 had a slight temp, ds1 found the whole thing hilarious.

ds1has been right as rain all day, ds2 much more lethargic but has eaten a decent tea.

They're older though (ds2 - 6, ds1- 9) Now just praying ds3 doesn't get it!

kaylasmum · 31/03/2008 19:50

I'm hoping my DD does'nt get it also. She was ill over the weekend with a high temperature and a sore throat, she did complain of a sore stomach now and agian over the past 2 days. She came out in a rash yesterday and still has it today, my HV thinks it's a viral rash.

Hope your DS3 does'nt come down with it.

hi Yurt1,

Just wondering how your lot are today. So far so good here but i know that it can take a couple of days or more for it to go round everyone.

ds vomitted all day on thursday last week, raging fever on friday, got dehydrated, went to a&e, re-hydrated him, fever under control by saturday, by sunday vomitting again, monday better, and today seems fine (touch wood). There is definitely something goin around, and the paed at a&e said he had seen a lot of it recently..........
dd hasn't (so far) got it at all, or me or dh (fingers crossed)

orangina · 01/04/2008 12:44

When not vomitting, ds had truly EVIL nappies for a few days, but things do seem to be back to normal, so hopefully you're past the worst of it........

Nemoandthefishes · 01/04/2008 12:48

sounds like the bug we all had a couple of weeks age...it was not fun!!

elesbells · 01/04/2008 12:51

DD3 (2) has been up all night vomiting and a temp.

She's had a cold for a couple of days too so there is something doing the rounds again.

kaylasmum · 01/04/2008 16:51

yeah there always seems to be something about, my DS still is'nt too well. He has'nt been sick since yesterday afternoon and he's breastfeeding quite regularly so i'm not too concerned about dehydration but he is very very listless and hot. He's been sleeping on and off all day, totally unlike him! Not even been able to raise a smile from him . I just want to see him back to his usual happy cheeky self.

Not sure if i can stop worrying about me picking it up yet, thats 40 hours now since he was first sick, so fingers crossed.

Just wanted to update on my son, he was ill with a stomach bug and just would'nt pick up at all. On Tuesday he was still very hot and it was quite difficult to get him to drink anything although he was taking regular breastfeeds. I phoned NHS 24 and they decided to send us an ambulance. We were taken to out local hospital first and josh was assessed and as we don't have a paediatric unit after 6pm we had to go to the next hospital 20 miles away. His temp was 38.5 and just was'nt coming down ans he was really floppy. He was dehydrated and had to be put on a drip and then they put a tube in his nose down into his stomach. The poor wee soul hated it Eventually he started to pick up a little and start drinking a little out of his bottle. He's actually managed to give us a smile today. We gor home about 2 hours ago. This has been the worst 4 days, an absolute nightmare, i'm just so glad that he seems to be on the mend.
