Have a HUGE cold sore on my top lip despite plastering on zovirax for the last few days it has finally appeared in all it's glory.

Does anyone have a secret cure or a way of speeding it up/getting rid of the pain?

Get some lysine lip balm or ointment from a health shop - it really soothes the pain and speeds up healing. It can stop them appearing sometimes too. Unlike Zovirax, it's completely natural too
Zovirax doesn't work for me at all

Oh, didn't know you could get lysine balm too! I was going to suggest L-lysine tablets, as being very good at reducing the length you have a coldsore. Very big tablets though.

Read in the Times that you can now get the electric cold sore machine (dont know what its called)thing on prescription from your GP. Thinking about asking for this because dd is a sufferer.

Thank you! Will send DP to the pharmacy and health shop on his way home from work. My DD is only 15 days old and I am terrified of accidently passing it on to her despite my obsessive hand-washing/using alcohol handrub.

The electric machine sounds interesting, will look into that, I don't get them very often anymore think it's just because my body is feeling fairly run down. I HATE them so much!

I always dab on some neat perfume (I have some samples from Avon lurking for just that purpose). It seems to shorten the duration - I think the alcohol in the perfume dries it out quicker, or something.
