9 year old daughters and puberty

dd1 is only just 9 and already has some breast development and some pubic hair. Wondering how many other 9 year olds girls are already at this stage? It just seems so young. Any ideas how much longer after this first stage that periods actually start? She just doesn't seem ready to cope with all that yet - emotionally immature but her body is going ahead of her. She isn't particularly tall or heavy for her age either, about average in fact, and I didn't start my periods early either (about 13).

My periods started when i was 11. My dd is only 2, so i'm not ure on that one i'm afraid.

My dd2 is 8, and has developed enough to wear a bra - she could easily manage without one, but was getting teased at school, and felt that she would be happier wearing one. She doesn't have any pubic hair or periods, but she does get BO if we don't make a real effort to get her to shower every day.

Dd1 (11) wears a bra, I don't think she has pubic hair, although I don't see her in the nude very often, as she is quite keen on privacy. She hasn't started her periods yet, but I know that there's at least one other girl in her year (6) who started in yr 4.

Not sure if that helps, but wanted you to know your daughter isn't alone...

Oh, and my periods didn't start until I was about 13, although I started wearing bras when I was about 10.

I remember wearing a bra in year 6 and there was a girl who had already started her periods, but she was rather tall and rather wide!

My dd is 9 and nothing is changing externally as of yet.

Girls need to be 7or8 stone before they can start their periods, it is a magical weight (something to do with having enough fat to be able to sustain a pregnancy.

My dd is also 9yo and has started to bud breast tissue. No sign of pubic hair yet, but BO has become more noticeable.

I think as a rough rule of thumb, periods begin around 2 years after the first breast buds appear.

Many of DD's friends of hte same age have also got some (very minimal thus far) breast development.

My DD1 had breast development and pubic hair at 9. She's now 11 and has been having periods for about a year and her breasts are a B cup already.

Thanks for your replies, glad that dd is not alone. There's a definite BO problem here as well! She weighs about 5 stone so I guess there's a little wait yet before periods (phew!)

Dd started periods at 10.
