Scared stiff of having my (one year) overdue smear test

That's it really. Not concerned about them finding anything as such, but with my SPD and dodgy pelvis, and the PTSD I had after my second birth, I really don't want to have it done!

How do I get over this?

Can you ask to have a particularly kind and sensitive nurse or GP of your choice?

I just had a Post natal smear and opted for the most sympatico GP and it went fine.

Its always going to be a bit stressful, but it only takes a couple of mins and its worth it for your long term health and ability to be a live parent (if you knwo what I mean).

I had a smear test last week and they have changed the tool they use, its like a soft bottle brush instead of that horrid dry wooden lolly-stick and I never felt a thing.
I have previously had loop diathermy (ouch) and am a wuss am very sensitive.

Please have it done

Mine was 7 years overdue!
And the results were fine.

I was in and out of the surgery in less than 10 minutes.

Explain your misgivings to the doctor/nurse - it will be fine.

Ask them to use the speculum they use for virgins its tiny and far far less uncomfortable than the humungus one they seem to think us seasoned mums need

You can feel worried and yet still go and have it done you know.
Once it is over it will not be worryingaway at you like a maggot eating through an apple.

there is a long running thread in health about smear tests i started 5 months ago for women putting off their smear tests!! lots of great advice and support on there

you must have it done, you know that

you can lie in the left lateral position which can make it easier to find your cervix and easier on your pelvis than lying on your back....
