Getting bitten at night on and off for months, what is it?

So, I’ve been having this problem since summer time last year - at night, I end up with insect bites in random places on my legs and feet (and very occasionally, my arms). I stopped being bitten for a few months, but then found out that my poor DS had been, during that time. It’s like the pest rotates between DS and I, as they’re now back to me again. I also have DH and DD in the house, but they never seem to get any bites?

I have been running mosquito killer plug-ins, we’ve checked for bed bugs, vacuumed and cleaned everything and everywhere, several times, yet nothing is working. We also don’t have any pets, so it can’t be fleas. I feel like I’m losing the plot!

Has anyone else had something similar happen, and found out what it was?

They say fleas tend to be ankles legs and sometimes waist area. Bedbugs are more likely torso bites back etc.
You can bring fleas in even if you have no pets. A work place had them once I worked at came in on someone's clothes who had pets we assume.
I left a small dish of water with a bit of washing up liquid in my lounge to see if any fleas as they jump in and drown but you can spot them then.
Strange that it's just 2 of you being bitten.

This is happening to me and dh too. Very clean house, no pets, being bitten on legs and ankles and occasionally stomach area. It happened to us both once, then nothing for a couple of weeks then the occasional bite. It's the first time we've ever experienced this and started about 4 weeks ago.

Sounds like fleas and you definitely can get them even when you don't have pets.

I was getting this too. Mainly on my legs. I figured out it was happening outside. I since started using insect repellent when I went in the garden and it has stopped.

@PhamieGowsSong this is probably a stupid question but how do they get into the house if you don't have pets? I thought they had to be carried in on something furry?

Yep! DH and I have been eaten alive for the last three weeks or so. I have no less than 40 bites on my legs and arms. Giant mozzies, I've seen 3 in the house. We've had a very wet early spring so lots of standing water for the fuckers to breed in!

Fleas can come in on a human who's house has fleas or if they visited a house with fleas or fussed a pet and they hitch a ride and jump off. On their clothes hair etc. Only needs a couple.

Flea eggs can also be dormant for up to a year.
