Been unwell for a week. Today my chest is crackling as I exhale. When I cough nothing comes up from my chest. If i walk upstairs I'm struggling for brreath. Do i need urgent help? I sound horrendous when breathing. 52 years old non smoker.

imo you should call 111 :)

yes, call

Have you seen a doctor this week and been given any treatment , 111 will advise you to go to hospital or call an ambulance for you and have a chest xray, oxygen levels and bloods taken. Can someone take you to hospital. Are you asthmatic or on any medication, recent operations, anh pain in your chest. These are things they will ask but if you can't breathe you need medical attention asap

Are you prepared to sit in the hospital for most of the night OP? Because that’s a possibility.

Personally, I’d phone my GP Tuesday morning and you may get a prescription for antibiotics. Sounds like a chest infection.

111 will likely tell you to go to A&E as they can’t really assess breathing issues over the phone and are likely to err on side of caution so I’d probably just skip the step of calling them and take yourself there, unless you live somewhere with walk in GP centre in which case go there.

Get help: it could be pneumonia which needs a very specific antibiotic.
