and I would like to know what to expect.
He is 2.5 and was referred at his 2yr check. Actually I am not overly concerned as he is talking lots, just not forming words properly and I remember DD was the same but only for a few months. We read to him a lot, and talk about things but I think he may let his older sister do the talking.

Anyway, the letter says the appointment will last about an hour so I wondered if anyone had an idea what to expect?

I have been with my ds today for his first appointment.Ds is 2.8.
The therapist took background information.i.e.Other family members and any health problems.
Then she just played with ds and wrote down afew things. It did take about an hour but went fast.
She played with cars and blew him bubbles. She asked him to pop the bubbles and which car was the biggest.

Thanks Millybilly. I just saw your other thread, I can't believe how long your Ds will have to wait for group therapy. Sorry you are feeling more concerned now, I am worried the same will happen to me and DS on Tuesday.

Can your ds say word that you/others can understand?
My ds says alot but most of the time i have to guess what he is saying. And after today i feel like he doesn't understand simple instructions.I'm not sure if it's just because he doesn't want to do something or he really doesn't understand.iykwim
He has alway been a happy little boy though.

My DS is also very happy! Other people have real difficulty, but he does really try. He says Mummuy clear as day, but says milk as gilk. Interesting to read on your other thread about hearing tests but I'm sure the therapist will explain all on Tuesday.

I was really surprised by ds today. He didn't do most of things he was bring asked. He kept looking around and not relly listening. It was really hard not to say something to him.
I hope your ds does better on Tuesday.

my ds was referred at around the same age and he is now 4.4yrsa. Initially he was not talking out of the house though but his pronunciation was so bad people could not understand him and he wasnt soft so he just decided not to bother. First appointment was an assessment and we were given some things to do at home then he has been seen every 3mths since. Then last summer and in feb he was also attending 5 session long speech groups over a week and he is now seen in school nursery by SALT.

Thanks millybilly and nemo. Am trying not to think about it now, he tries at least, I really would be worried if he wasn't. At least that's what i keep telling myself!
