I had an umbilical hernia removed last week under general. The tummy is healing OK but I am exhausted ! Feel like I am wading through treacle and have a horrid sinusy cold that wont go away. Did anyone else feel so exhausted after a general ? This weather doesn't help !

Oh, that's depressing - I had an eye duct operation on Wednesday. I'm still tired today, and hoping to feel better soon ...

But a general, and any op, is hard on the system. It's normal to feel out of sorts for a while, I'd think.

Soudns v v normal, take care of yourself - your body has been through a) intrusive procedure and b) mega drug-induced altered state!

mousemole · 28/03/2008 12:20

Notquitecockney, hope you feel better soon.
Elibean - thank you. I dont think it helped going into the operation with a cold but they wanted to proceed....

I feel like I've been beat up.

Thing is, there's the op, there's the stress before the op, there's the recovery. The whole family is worn out and stressed and weird.

I felt awful for 2wks. very dizzy and sick and tired. all normal apparently.

it does get better though.

mousemole · 28/03/2008 12:38

Hertsnessex - yes I feel dizzy too. Also weird appetite, sometimes no hunger and sometimes ravenous. Come midday I just want to lie down and sleep. Of course because I am up and dressed and looking after the LO's, husband thinks it is business as usual and has forgotten about the op. GRRRRRRR.

When I last had a general I felt like utter crap for 4 days, then caught a great sneezy cold which really helped my stitches heal. Think what you are going through is perfectly normal

hertsnessex · 28/03/2008 12:41

mousemole, my consultant asked for me to come back and see her. She said if it lasted anymore than 2weeks to go back again. Luckily for me it cleared up. Sometimes our bodies just cant process what has happened.

Yes, I remember feeling shattered for a couple of weeks folowing op.

NotQuiteCockney · 28/03/2008 12:42

I don't feel dizzy, just tired. They had to break a bone in my nose to do my op, and I just feel like I've been beat up. It's only been two days, though, so it's early days.
