Did you have any major side-effects with it?

Its what you would call a break-through bleed, signifying that your hormone levels have dropped a little and stopped supressing your womb lining.

There is no such thing as a real period while taking any brand of pill, as all of the bleeds are artificially-created withdrawal bleeds or inadvertant breakthrough bleeds (e.g. when a pill is missed). Don't worry about their duration- they differ from person to person.

That's probably as clear as mud, sorry!

expatinscotland · 28/03/2008 21:36

i would avoid ANY progesten-based contraception if you have any history of PND or depression.

taking cerazette brought me perilously close to hell, and as i've spent most of my adult life there i'm well familiar with the place.

it gave me: cystic acne (i've still got the scars!), nearly constant bright red bleeding and greasy hair.

it killed my libido entirely, something that not even a cocktail of ADs, anti-anxiety drugs and prescribed medication for insomnia managed to do.

and let me tell you what it did to my moods: blacker than the blackest night of two bouts of PND.

i would rather have a hysterectomy than step anywhere near progesten-based contraception again.

expatinscotland · 28/03/2008 21:37

a wise GYN at the Family Planning Clinic completely ruled out Depo injection for me the second she read my notes and saw, 'PND'.

expatinscotland · 28/03/2008 21:40

she must have read just how bad mine was .

Pinkchampagne · 28/03/2008 21:47

I have been taking Cerazette for around 6 months now. I have had problems with unpredictable bleeding, but that seems to have calmed again now, and I haven't had a period for way over a month.
I worried it was affecting my mood a little, and this is something I am keeping an eye on, but think it may have been more due to tiredness etc.
Hasn't affected me in any other way at all though. Certainly hasn't affected my libido!

nappyaddict · 28/03/2008 23:37

gosh now i am confused. so what's the difference between a breakthrough bleed and a withdrawal bleed?

emma1977 · 29/03/2008 13:28

BTB is when you are bleeding when you shouldn't be (i.e. when continuously taking pill)

WDB is an intentional bleed caused by deliberately stopping hormones (i.e. in pill free week on combined pills)

Just a bit of medical semantics really!

nappyaddict · 31/03/2008 13:55

so how does it work for cerazette? i always thought that was a proper period cos you take it continuously and don't stop taking the hormones.

RedFraggle · 31/03/2008 16:08

I'm with expatinscotland on this one - Cerazette had an evil effect on me. Sent me into suicidal depression, I honestly thought I was going mad for a while... After my experience with this drug I will never take another birth control pill again.
I have posted about this before though so just search for cerazette on here!

nappyaddict · 16/06/2008 10:41

i have a question. for some reason i feel pregnant but if i was it would make me 14 weeks which i think is too long to go without having any sort of symptoms. also i had a period last month but i had just come off the pill (cerazette). cos a BTB/WDB isn't a real period can it confirm you aren't pregnant or not?

Seona1973 · 16/06/2008 12:45

the only thing that would confirm it one way or another would be a pregnancy test as you can have bleeding in pregnancy anyway.

rachw1 · 16/06/2008 15:29

I had PND (11 years ago) and have a tendency to mild depression. I take Cerazette now (I get focal migraines made worse by the combined pill) and I don't think it has worsened my moods or caused any noticeable side effects. It seems as if some people really do well on this pill and others have an awful time.

emma1977 · 16/06/2008 21:58

As I've probably said before, never rely on bleeds as a sign that you're definitely not pregnant.

You'll only know for sure, if you take a test. If you took your pill properly, with no gaps or missed pills, then it is unlikely that you would be pregnant.

nappyaddict · 17/06/2008 00:31

i know you can sometimes still have periods during pregnancy but generally if you have a withdrawal bleed say when on the combined pill that means you're not pregnant doesn't it? i thought the whole point of having a pill free week on the combined pill was so you would know if you were pregnant or not? or was i totally misinformed at school?

how does it work with cerazette cos you don't actually miss any pills. do some of the pills have less hormones in or something so you get a bleed?

prix79 · 26/06/2012 07:23

Finally I get to read about other women going through the same hideous symptoms I've had to go through for the past 8 months! After having 30 or + days periods, (which btw killed my sex life) it appears to be gone for a month now (although I feel like it's coming anytime soon Confused ). This pill is a total nightmare!!!

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 26/06/2012 07:46

I am now taking this pill after GP found out I had history of thrombosis in my family and advised Yasmin was not suitable.

I found I had awful mood swings at first but 3 months on I'm not getting them as much. I have however had this overwhelming feeling of sadness recently, not sure if this is linked to the pill or not. I'll keep an eye on it after reading some of the other posts here.

Quite enjoying having no periods although did POAS last week as a double check

AttilaTheMeerkat · 26/06/2012 08:55

VeniVidiVickiQV

I'm now on this pill and after a bad first month on it (lots of breakthrough bleeding) it appears to have settled down.

Will your GP not refer you to a gynae now, I would be asking for a referral to such a person. The symptoms you describe could be related to endometriosis. Would suggest you keep a daily pain and symptom diary as well.

You may well find that the pill may help but it will not do anything at all to address the underlying cause. Also in my experience many GPs are not great when it comes to womens gynae issues.

Hi there,
I started taking Cerazette after I had my baby and on the second week, heavy bleeding started. it`s been o for 4 days. is that normal? Any experience? Thanks a lot. Have a great day everyone.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 02/08/2018 22:04

This is an old thread. Cerazette can cause erratic or constant bleeding.

Krisztina03 · 02/08/2018 22:53

Old thread or not I still need a reply.
