Threadworms and Ovex - anyone else felt ill with this?

I discovered I had threadworms 6 days ago and took Ovex pretty much straight away. It only really starting clearing up the worms symptoms about 4 days in (took longer than I expected). However, for the last two days I've been feeling rubbish - stomach pains, nauseous, very tired and generally like I've got a tummy bug. Is this a side effect of the Ovex? Anyone else experienced this?

I've taken it a few times and felt fine. I'm sure threadworm stuff used to have a laxative in it (the stuff before Ovex - was it called Pripsen or something similar?) but even so, that wouldn't affect you this far down the line. It's probably unrelated.

ClearSky456 · 24/03/2024 09:30

Thanks. Yeah I'm starting to wonder if unrelated. Just seems a bit of a coincidence that it started a few days after I took the threadworm medicine. Bowels are fine actually, but I have bad tummy pains and just feel constantly sick and icky!

It gave me a sore stomach when we had to dose the whole family when the kids had it! I felt horrid.

None of my family have ever had side effects from Ovex. We all had to take it several times over many years, regardless of whether we actually had threadworms, because we would treat the whole family whenever one of the dc were infected.

I suspect you've picked up a tummy bug. If you're exposed to young kids and catch threadworms from them, you'll catch other things from them, too.

Thanks everyone. Hoping whatever it is clears up soon. Not really looking forward to having to take the second dose of Ovex in a week's time!

Everyone else in the family seems to be okay - all very odd. It does say on the box 1 in 10 get stomach pains. It feels a bit like really bad indigestion tbh.

We took in on Friday and everyone else but me are fine. I've got such hideous stomach cramps, feels like Im being squeezed inside. Had to call in sick as I can't work the ward feeling like I'm going to spew or poo at every moment. Weirdly Im ravenous at the same time. Definitely not a stomach bug.

ClearSky456 · 15/04/2024 12:15

Oh no, sounds awful MadMother37! 🙁

I wasn't actually sick but felt like my stomach was churning, although had my normal appetite too. Odd how some folk get such a reaction and others totally fine! I was dreading taking the second dose but thankfully felt absolutely fine second time.

Take it easy - lots of rest and hot water bottles for your tummy. HATE threadworms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give me headlice any time over worms.....can't believe I said that! 😂

My youngest collects threadworms like they're going extinct 😬🤢 and so we regularly need to take Ovex. None of us have ever had a reaction like this to it!

It sounds as though you've caught some kind of stomach bug or food poisoning at the same time as taking Ovex... I hope it passes soon.

ClearSky456 · 17/04/2024 14:21

The GP told me that there are a few people who do get these side effects with Ovex -it's like an auto-immune response apparently! Just unlucky, I think!

I had the same reaction as you . Queasy all the time and cramps.

MadMother37 · 17/04/2024 15:53

Much, thanks. Never want to repeat that experience again. Thank you for checking in!
