What could this dark spot on my thumbnail be?

Not something I want to bother a GP with but can anyone tell me what this dark spot on my nail might be? I'm a bit of a nail biter.

Could you have knocked it recently and it hasn’t healed?

Go to GP, need to exclude skin cancer

@Durdledore only a few days that I've noticed.

Could it be a little bit of blood under the nail? Do you tend to bite around the edges and the skin, it could just be a small cut has bled under the nail and left a dark spot.

@MonsteraMama I do, I bite down from the top all the way down. My main fear is nail fungus, as I used to have it on one of my toes and have to have the nail permanently removed.

Id agree to get it checked it out. My ds has a brown line on his fingernail and he had a 2 week cancer referral to rule out skin cancer. Difficult to tell in your case due to position, but in his case it a mole growing at the very base of his fingernail bed (not visible). As the nail grows it ‘takes the mole with it’ producing the line. He has to keep an eye on the colour and thickness of it - any darkening or increase in thickness is checked.
