When should I soak off the steri strips?

I fell on Friday 8th, tearing the palm of my hand, which A&E patched up with steri strips, telling me not to get them wet for a week.

So, now that it's been more than a week I googled as to whether it is time to soak the strips off yet. The websites all refer to post surgery, i.e. clean straight cuts, which is nothing like the messy tear I did to myself. My palm still feels very tender. (There's no infection). Should I leave the strips on or soak them off?

I'd get some more (chemist or Amazon) then soak the original ones off and put new ones on until it looks like it's healing.

I had a finger injury (fight with a blender) and was told to leave them on until they came off naturally.
