Breastfeeding/Heavy Periods

Hi Mumsnet!

I'm nine months post partum and exclusively breastfeeding. I'm on my third period since November (all irregular) but have been bleeding heavily for four weeks - blood tests all fine but has anyone seen this with breastfeeding and long heavy periods?

I'm besides myself with worry and the GP just said 'try contraception' which I'm not against but I want to know the reasons behind the period.

Any similar stories? Many thanks

No sorry. In fact I'm still breastfeeding my 2.5yr old and my period only returned 2 months the ago. I had one period then a gap of 49 days and then a period again. One or two days heavy the rest just slowing down.

4 weeks heavy bleeding doesn't sound right op. I'd try and get a second opinion

I agree I’d go back. Breastfeeding doesn’t cause heavy bleeding, if anything the opposite. You must be feeling exhausted with it.
