Chesty cough with no viral symptoms?

This is probably totally common but I've never had this before! I started to feel the first tingles of a potential chest infection on Thursday, the kind I usually get after a cold when I get that tickly cold feeling in my chest then the cough starts. It hasn't been too bad over the weekend although I've been very tired and my blood pressure is high today (140/94 and heart rate of 106, both readings are normally much lower) I have a bit of a cough now, coughing up clear mucus, but quite a bit of chest pain.

Anyway I'm just wondering what the cause of this could be - I don't think I've got a viral infection , I haven't had a runny nose or anything like that?

Do you have a fever?

ViciousCurrentBun · 17/03/2024 17:21

I started off with a cough and then on day 3 had 3 days of fever, I have been unwell for 3 weeks now though improving. Some of my friends in another city have also had this. There have been a few threads about it. I have never had so much snot in my life. I would get in some food and meds just in case it’s this thing I have had, I felt utterly grim for a week. DH has had it as well though not quite as bad as me but he had time off work which is virtually unheard of.

I had a blocked nose and then a chesty cough/tight chest. My throat is fine and no temperature. I have felt quite rubbish but it is 'just' my chest.

My DS had a temperature for a week followed by a chesty cough. I don't know if I have the same virus or something else.

I have been ill 5 days now and am improving but still coughing quite a lot.

I don't have a fever, no. I've woken up about an hour ago with a racing heart and pain on the right side of my chest. My watch said my heart rate was 115 which is very high for me. Thankfully it has settled down to 94 now.

Hope you all feel better soon Flowers

94 is still on the high side for a resting heart rate. When did you last see the GP?

needsomereassurances · 18/03/2024 07:43

Back in November, I've had a sore and swollen toe since last September so I went to see what it was. They did a full set of blood tests and an x Ray which were all fine, I felt a bit daft for wasting their time about a toe so I just left it! It's just my toe though not my foot or leg.

I was scared to go back to sleep last night! But I'm just the same this morning, chesty, heart rate is 106, blood pressure is 128/100 although I'm not sure why I'm taking it because I don't know what the numbers mean although I suppose if it all keeps going up and up I'll have to go and get checked out.

I had something similar and went to the doctor as I was worried about whooping cough. They sent me for an x-ray and it turned out to be pneumonia. They didn't test to see if it was viral or bacterial they just put me on 10 day course of antibiotics. I'd go to the doctor and get checked out.

Thanks @Lovelyview it's a bank holiday here today so the GP is closed but I'll probably ring tomorrow if I'm still feeling rough

There is a lot of whooping cough around.
