What is this rash? At my wits end!

Hi! Any and all advice is so welcome here I’m at my wits end with this rash! I’ve had it for around 3 months now and it’s progressively getting worse. It started as just a few spots on the stomach and has now covered my stomach, back, sides, forearms and thighs. They’re red slightly raised bumps and are itchy. I’ve been to the GP who said it could be contact dermatitis and prescribed strong antihistamines - my rash died down completely after a week on these but then flared but up again worse than ever after a week despite me continuing to take the antihistamines. They als suggested scabies but I had scabies years ago when I was a student and it doesn’t feel like this (no spots on hands or feet’s, no fluid, no track marks). I’m completely stuck and just want it rid of now!!

Oh that looks nasty. If you hadn’t had it for 3 months I’d have said chickenpox!
Hope someone else can help.

It looks like it could be guttate psoriasis, have you been really stressed recently or before it started?

User51288 · 13/03/2024 11:59

It looks like an allergic reaction to something or a heat rash. Try some Eurax cream otc for the itching x

jellycat · 13/03/2024 13:04

It looks like an allergic reaction to me too. Have you changed your laundry detergent? It’s all over so it could be something like that.

I’d try a bit of hydrocortisone cream to see if it has any effect. And Eurax is v good for itching, although it’s not supposed to be used in pregnancy (if that might be a possibility).

I had to go to A&E for my DD rash years ago

They're better at diagnosing rashes so go there

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 13/03/2024 23:00

It looks like a type of pityritis to me.There are many variations.
I would go back to the GP asap.

Pigeonqueen · 13/03/2024 23:04

I would say it’s some sort of allergic reaction, either to something you’re eating or something coming into contact with your skin. Have you tried high strength antihistamines- you can get fexofenadine 120mg over the counter, if it calms down a bit with that I’d be inclined to think it’s definitely an allergy and try to work out what’s causing it that way.

Saramia · 13/03/2024 23:06

I had scabies and there was nothing on my hands or feet. I’d give the lotion a try.

Scarletttulips · 13/03/2024 23:07

Could it be bed bugs?

Vergeofbreakdown23 · 13/03/2024 23:09

My DH has a rare skin condition called Mast Cell Mastocytosis - it started out a bit like this so look it up.
It can only be diagnosed properly by a biopsy being taken from one of the bumps - basically they don't know enough about it as to what caused it or how best to treat it. He's currently on 5 anti histamines a day and carries an epi pen.
It may not (most likely won't) be that, BUT my hubby had scabies years ago and his spots began appearing about 5 years later.
His dermatologist insists there's no connection - but they don't have any idea what causes Mastocytosis so I don't know how he can say that tbh!
Before my hubby was diagnosed he was told it was an inflammation of his skin pores, given various creams etc but nothing helped.
Ask your GP to refer you to a dermatologist and get checked/bring up Mastocytosis x

Could it be bed bugs?

Don't be ridiculous, FGS.
OP, see doc again and seek blood tests

If you have not changed your washing powder - check it to see if they have revised the ingredients.

Have you bought new bedsheets or night clothing?

mamacorn1 · 13/03/2024 23:16

Does look like an allergy ….

GrandKarber · 13/03/2024 23:19

Did it start after a bad throat? If so, that looks a lot like guttate psoriasis as mentioned upthread. It does clear eventually. The spots are salmon coloured with a sort of silver scale.

idontlikealdi · 13/03/2024 23:24

Prityaris Rosea (sp?) possibly. I had it
For almost a year and looked like that.

justabigdisco · 13/03/2024 23:28

It’s hard to be certain from the photos but it looks to me like pityriasis rosea or possibly guttate psoriasis. Definitely doesn’t look like contact dermatitis or scabies. Please don’t go to A&E - they are generally not trained in dermatology and it’s not an accident or an emergency (doctor here)

toastedcrumpetsrock · 13/03/2024 23:32

I get a rash like that every couple of years - usually after a sore throat, I use an antihistamine and a good moisturiser- it's been diagnosed as guttate psoriasis, hives, eczema etc depending on which gp I see - it takes at least a couple of weeks to start getting better
