Diarrhoea in 8 month old - when to worry?

He's happy, cheerful, no more windy than usual (think cyclone) and he's feeding and eating (we do BLW) normally. In the last 2 days he's been pooing every few hours with a lot of straining and some crying. It's been runny and yellowy and it smells and looks reminiscent of early days BF baby poo, only a bit stronger.

I'm BFing him whenever he wants just now but I have to work tomorrow and Friday so he'll be relying on frozen EBM if he wants milk other than his lunchtime feed. Can't think of what's caused it but he has spent a lot of time rolling around on the floor and trying to lick things he shouldn't, as 8 month olds are wont to do ...

I haven't phoned the doc cos he seems fine otherwise. Should I? Don't want to be a neglectful mum but it certainly hasn't knocked him so far.

It sounds a bit like overflow - he has a solid stool that he's straining to get out and the liquid stuff is pouring down around it (hope you're not eating!)

I don't think it's common in bf 8 month olds though. I'd cut down a bit on the solids and try to up the bf/EBM where possible until it, er, passes. Has he eaten anything different/new lately? (floor licking aside!)

Niiiiiiiiiiiice

I don't think there's anything new on the diet front (apart from everything being relatively new, IYSWIM!) but I will quiz DP who is his weekday carer. If he looks sheepish I'll know to be suspicious!

He does get water from a cup with all his meals, which he loves with a great passion so I'm hopeful it's not constipation.
