A very general health question..what one thing - either
a product you’ve started eating/drinking/taking/using OR exercise/routine you’ve started OR something you’ve cut out OR
anything else at all
has had the most positive effect on your life in terms of making you feel ‘better’ physically, emotionally, mentally?

Hands down it’s quitting booze. I have lost a stone in a month, sleep way better, my moods are much more stable, I have more energy. Noticed today that my skin is generally less red ( I had a lot of unsightly marks on my legs, for example, which have faded). I feel less anxious too.

Giving up the ciggies. Tried for years but not had one for 6 months now and am so proud. I feel fitter, have better sense of smell but have put on weight.

AuntieMarys · 10/03/2024 08:37

Cut out toxic people in your life and keep stress to a minimum

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 10/03/2024 08:38

Stopped eating sugar!

PermanentTemporary · 10/03/2024 08:40

Getting to bed earlier (like, lights out at 1015 or 1030). Requires me to start thinking about it certainly from 915 or so. My levels of general stress and misery are SO much better.

Massive reductions in caffeine. I was being ruled by my incontinence. I am a bit more in control of it now.

Beautifulsunflowers · 10/03/2024 08:40

Joined the gym

going to cut down alcohol after today too as @RabbitsRock has inspired me!!

Redcase · 10/03/2024 08:41

I also started using Wild Mint skin care products. They had a 50% off sale in January and I got 5 products which I use morning and night. I’ve really stuck to the routine as it feels like a lovely bit of self care twice a day. My skin looks much better and is well hydrated. This is probably linked to giving up the ciggies too!

Joined a Gymophobics gym near me. Do weight circuits 2-3 times a week. My cholesterol level has dropped significantly, I have increased muscle mass and get fewer aches and pains in my joints.

Menopants · 10/03/2024 08:41

Weight based fitness classes at gym. Body pump etc

Kalevala · 10/03/2024 08:42

No UPFs and more meat, eggs, dairy, and veg.

Dogskidsdogs · 10/03/2024 08:43

In times in the past when I have cut out alcohol I've noticed a huge improvement in my health, weight and mood. Also regular exercise has really helped with mood.

Dietwise, I did a higher protein diet with loads of veg (but didn't cut out carbs- just had more wholegrain options). That was really good for bloating.

bumblebutt28 · 10/03/2024 08:43

Quitting booze. Not ready/able to totally quit yet but I am trying to cut down. It helps me to sleep better, reduce anxiety and lose weight.

Willmafrockfit · 10/03/2024 08:44

stopping smoking, no more wheezing or coughing

littlegrebe · 10/03/2024 08:45

Going to bed earlier and cutting right back on booze. I used to regularly drink a whole bottle of wine on a Friday night then wonder why I felt miserable all day Saturday.

moonjump · 10/03/2024 08:45

Was this exact question not asked yesterday?

Were you drinking much?

Safxxx · 10/03/2024 08:48

Daily walks in the morning, ginger & tumeric drinks helped with pain, cutting back on stress levels

Massive cliche maybe, but hands down it's yoga.
I've always been pretty active, involved in various sports at various times. But for all round body and mind, yoga beats the lot for time/money/benefit.
I'll caveat that with saying I've stumbled upon a good teacher. I have tried it before and not had this level of benefit, or even wanted to keep going.
One previous teacher wasn't good at correcting you if you weren't quite right so your progress was well supported, one filed her nails during class and her attention was mostly her manicure(!!!), and one gave so much information, and exactly when to breathe in and out while following, them that you came out mentally frazzled.
This teacher knows her class, corrects people well, pushes us and is lovely.
My body, is stronger, moves better and it gives me lasting mental calm because in class you have to fully focus on your body and what your muscles are doing, all problems drop away and I only have to think about me, which is never the case at any other time.
In our class there are all body shapes and ages, some people are coming back to exercise for the first time in years, everyone is saying the same thing.

VanillaSugar2024 · 10/03/2024 08:53

Cutting down on the three Ss: salt, sugar, stimulants (alcohol and caffeine) plus lots of water and sleep.
