little sore on DS willy

DS (just under a year) has a nasty looking sore on his willy - about the size of the end of a drawing pin, and quite pus-y (sp?!). It doesn't hurt him at all, or stop him peeing.
Took him to the dr who first said well, if it's not bothering him then don't worry, then said no let's give him a week of oral antibiotics, then when I protested about that in the light of her having just said he seemed fine said oh well then you could just put a cream (fucidin) on.
I'm very pro medicines at the right time, when they're necessary etc., but what do you reckon? She seemed so swayable (and generally hopeless - a locum, and she managed to get us all locked into the consulting room too, and didn't wash her hands after touching DS's willy...) d
Do I just go with the cream and see what happens? Any 'alternative' remedies anyone has had success with? I've been trying to give him some nappy free time, but it's so cold!

I was given fucidin when DS had a little skin infection and it sorted it out in a couple of days. So perhaps worth trying? You will probably know straight away if it's working and I feel (possibly wrongly!) that it's not as harsh as antibiotics going through their whole system.

definitely agree abt the cream being less harsh than the oral stuff!
anyone else?
