hi I'm trying to write an essay on dental care in the under 8's
am having trouble finding out info on what happens at the dental screening done in schools, does anyone know if its just a quick look then a note home to recomend parents go to a dentist, or do they do any work while there in the school?
if anyone who has a clue thoughts etc would be appreciated

At my childrens school the children all got a note home saying either that they had tooth decay or that they were at risk of tooth decay. There was no work carried out (and the consent form from the school only agreed to a check up, not to work, so they couldnt have done it anyway, IYSWIM).

At the school I work at , we send letters home to say that a dental inspection is being carried out, give parents option to opt out/ accompany their children etc, I think the PCT/ Area Health Authority do it for variety of reaasons , 1. Check level of decay etc 2. To see if people are actually taking chdn to dentist. 3. To find out if people can actually get into SEE a dentist!!
No work is carried out, but advice notes sent home.

Hope this helps.

thank you both for responding. seems from answers i have received what you get depends on where you live! i thought it was a nationally rolled out thing, but seems there are variations on whther it happens or not depending which county you live in.

I don't remember any of mine even being looked at. They are 7 and 8 so t isn't that long ago. I suppose it may have been done under a general consent, and I didn't hear anything as they don' need any work done.
