I am starting another one, my second since Christmas.

noddyholder · 25/03/2008 19:51

Well i got desperate after 4 weeks of steaming and no sleep and I bought covnia night time and it did work as in I was knocked out so couldn't cough but the cough didn't really improve I just wasn't so exhausted

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 25/03/2008 19:51

I went to bed at 10.30 last night, wide awake at 1.00.

Two choices, natural route, bath and lots of steam then back to bed. Or..........chew on the inhaler.

God I love Ventolin, I rarely need it so don't feel guilty when I take slightly too much.

Inset day today, DH left for a meeting at 9.00 and I slept until 9.30..........bliss.

What about the old favourite honey and lemon? Have you tried that.

A towel soaked in lavender oil on the radiator always helps me too. Will check if that is ok when pregnant.

Sounds horrible.

Kindereggsurpise · 25/03/2008 20:12

Have a look here

Eucalyptus is very good for respiritory problems too.

Kindereggsurpise · 25/03/2008 20:13

and even for respiratory problems

lucyellensmum · 25/03/2008 21:06

ah, just wanted to say congratulations on the pregnancy really - so pleased for you after everything you have been through

The cough is shite, everyone i know has had it - just wont go - my doctor suggested to me, as my chest was clear, that it was more likely gunk from the nose accumulating at the back of the throat and to take decongestant. That doesnt help you in your condition though, but maybe snorting some olbas oil or karvol, providing it is safe.

congratulations again

lucyellensmum · 25/03/2008 21:07

I think i read somewhere once that you have to be careful with lavender when pregnant, in very small amounts is ok, but other than that, its to be avoided - i'm not 100% on this though

Try not to cough. It irritates the pharynx and just makes you want to do it more. Think of it as like breastfeeding. The more you do,the more you produce. I sympathise though as I have been barking like a seal fro three weeks.

Kindersurprise · 25/03/2008 22:08

When I had DS I had a stinking cold and the physiotherapist at the hospital told me to cough over my shoulder to take the pressure off of the abdomen, if that makes sense.

Don't know if this will help you any. It might help with the feeling of almost being sick.

ninja · 25/03/2008 22:12

me too and like you pregnant so don't want to take anything.

Are you sleeping on LOADS of pillows - can make a difference in the night.

My other problem (if you can all promise you won't tell) is that my pelvic floor isn't holding up well to all the coughing. I was going through all my PJ bottoms in the night and am now using a large ST

fakeblonde · 25/03/2008 22:15

Neat orange juice.
Hot simple linctus.
Possibly antibiotics-have you seen your gp as if you have an infection thats left untreated thats more harmful than being brave and taking nothing imo.
