Flareups - of what?!

Currently having an IBS flareup. I know about IBS, had it for years along with gastritis/reflux. But increasingly as I've got older I'm realising that lots of other things seem to go hand in hand with it.

So:

-IBS flareup (diarrhoea, cramps etc but also constipation at times)
-gastritis (nausea, reflux)
-rib pain
-lower back pain
-joint pain (hip at the moment)
-headaches
-fatigue and brain fog

All flaring at the same time? I am definitely anxious about it all which doesn't help, and I'm 44 with some peri symptoms (although I have a Mirena) but why does everything flare at the same time? It can go on for weeks like this, was like it Oct/Nov/Dec but then I was fine for most of Jan and now it's all back!

Just wondering if there's something that has all those symptoms or if feeling rubbish from one of them just makes me more susceptible to the others, I guess. Any thoughts appreciated!

Could be any number of things. Sounds like rheumatoid arthritis to me, but depends on severity of the pain

Autoimmune!

You've classic symptoms. Get yourself a blood test.

Autoimmune? That could be lots of things, right?

I think I thought everyone gets aches and pains in their 40s. But they don't apparently! And the fact these all flare at the same time is making me wonder

The pain is pretty tiring. Paracetamol takes the edge off but I use a heated cushion a lot because it gets so bad.

Gallstones? Attacks of biliary colic?

I agree with the AI suggestion.
A blood test would rule in or out.

Go to the doctors. I’ve been having episodic joint pain, fatigue and headaches. Really quite bad at times. Started a couple of years ago. Turned out I’m anaemic ant but d deficient. Worth getting stuff ruled out rather than assuming it’s normal.

Sounds IBD. My doctor would be getting my stool sample pronto.

Thanks. Had gallbladder removed a year ago.

Thanks for the help, was able to be clearer with the GP. Having FIT test and inflammation markers tests and he thought checking for autoimmune response was a good shout too. Really hope they can get to the bottom of this.

How are you now OP?

IHeartKingThistle · 23/03/2024 19:33

Thanks for asking!

FIT test negative but calprotectin raised. Got to repeat again in a couple of weeks. Trying not to worry.

Stomach flare has calmed down and the joint pain along with it, but it was all nasty while it lasted. Assuming it will all flare again in a few weeks but will see!
