Swollen lower left side of neck

So I’ve got swelling on the left of my lower neck. Doctor said it feels like localised swelling not a gland but I can feel a small lump inside the swelling. It’s very uncomfortable it’s hurting the shoulder that side and collar bone. I’m aching mainly lower back & back of neck. Chest is uncomfortable also. Feel like something is pressuring inside my neck like I can’t breathe. I’m Awaiting an Ultrasound but the waiting is slowly driving me mad with worry as I have a one year old son to think about. Praying it’s a thyroid issue that can be fixed anyone else experienced anything like this?

The waiting is so horrible, I’m sorry you’re going through this. Do you have a date for your ultrasound yet?

Not me personally, but when my brother was in his 20s, he had a biopsy on a small lump on his neck and it was benign. Fingers crossed it’s the same for you. The doctor is just being thorough which is good.

I hope you don’t have to wait too long. This time last year, it took three months of investigations from two week wait before I was diagnosed. I really ended up very depressed. Felt like my lift was on hold. When I was finally told that i had very early stage treatable cancer, I was over the moon. Much better than waiting.

If you can afford it, you can pay for a private ultrasound. But still make sure you go to NHS one. Hopefully it would reassure you while you wait, but if it did throw up anything suspicious, you could take results to GP and get fast tracked. Worth considering. I used ultrasound direct. Lots of local branches - costs approx £100.

Good luck

@Cvoight no still no ultrasound date. I’ve just had a look on the website for the place you’ve mentioned it says thyroid isn’t included or the neck area so I’m abit unsure of what to do

Oh, I didn’t realise that about Ultrasound Direct. Did your doctor order any blood tests for you? How long ago was your appointment?

Jaydep92 · 27/02/2024 19:47

@Cvoight Yes I’ve had blood tests done they said everything was ok slightly raised white blood cell count but nothing major. But I’m not 100% sure what else they tested for. Also read online they don’t cover major things like cancer which is my biggest concern atm. I have spoken to ent today who’s arranged an emergency appointment for Monday but I’m not convinced she’ll find anything it’ll probably be scans that do

This is my thyroid lump. It’s a 3cm benign nodule. No treatment. It’s uncomfortable but not really painful.
