I’ve been suffering with my guts for decades.
I have had endless tests over these years including 2 colonoscopies, 2 gastroscopes, a pill camera endoscopy, a bile acid malabsorption scan, stool tests and us scans. Always told it’s just IBS and functional dyspepsia.
I follow a special diet for my tummy and avoid known trigger foods and drinks, only drink water, sleep as much as I can, exercise etc etc (basically I do all the things you are supposed to do for good gut health).
I have frequent nausea (enough to have to wear travel wrist bands), it makes me feel quite ‘acidic’ at the base of my throat and I often have a horrid taste in my mouth. I also find that I am always feeling the need to clear my throat.
BUT…
I am also constantly stressed, that’s down to a combination of being a natural-born worrier with ocd, health anxiety and GAD and stressing over my elderly parents (mum has Alzheimer’s and it’s a constant daily worry).
I am also 51 and in perimenopause (gut issues became a lot worse since the age of 45) and have just been diagnosed with endometriosis (after years and years of gynae issues).
For years I have always felt like I need to clear my throat as though there is thick mucus at the back of throat and whenever I get a cough/cold I will have a cough for weeks after.
Last September I caught that cough/chesty virus which was going round and I didn’t shake off the cough until December (ish). I spoke to a paramedic at my GP surgery, he said he thought it was acid reflux and prescribed me some PPI but they exacerbated my IBS so I stopped taking them, not sure if they actually helped or not tbh.
Anyhow, long story short. Could this queasy/nauseous slightly acidy feeling with an annoying throat clearing cough-like sensation be all down to acid reflux?
