Not discoloured, large bumps/swellings on front of tongue. She says they hurt a little.

Any ideas what it could be?

Have you dared google? Maybe a reaction to wh9o knows?

Pavlovthecat · 23/03/2008 02:14

yes have googled. It says it is either
A reaction to something
Oral Herpes
Syphillis
Bacterial infection
Tuberculosis

and some other less pleasant things.

All of which sound horrid and I was hoping for a more...pleasant? explanation.

I am guessing it has to be an allergic reaction to something.

She went to a birthday party so will ask her parents what she might have eaten (its my neice)

Could it be a reaction to rabbits? She fed some rabbits today at the birthday party...it seems everything else she ate she has had before...

Well reaction isn't much you can do but watch and wait. maybe limit contact with bunnies til you're sure.

Herpes, no biggie. Painful, horrible but cureble easy as pie. go to doc.

In fact why not gp, if still there on tues and in the meantime keep an eye but if not overly swollen (to the poit of restricting swallowing etc) give ice to suck. Take opportunity to make ice lollies together

Pavlovthecat · 23/03/2008 02:24

thanks Slur. In US, hence the time on MN! I think the GP is open in monday actually. She seems fine with it, talking as usual and playing.

Will do the ice thing...
I am just reading up about rabbit allergies - not fur specifically but skin/oils on fur/saliva - she fed the rabbit, wondering if she perhaps then put her hand to her mouth before washing hands? Whilst not a full allergic reaction by being near, the physical contact might have produced a reaction on tongue?

An idea at least. Will let parents know to keep an eye.

I think the rabbit allergy is low down on likelihoods but worth bearing in mind. Recommend a trip to gp (or should that be peaditrician?) just to check
