Nosebleeds all the time

Does anyone else suffer from very frequent nosebleeds?

I feel like I am being fobbed off a bit by my GP but I am not sure what more they could or should do.

For the last year or so I have started getting nosebleeds and these are ramping up. They are always at night , generally in the wee small hours. As an outline of what I mean , I have had 12 nosebleeds in the last 4 weeks. They are not all that long lasting but they drip out of my nose a fair amount and run down my throat. They are often preceded by a migraine or followed by one - but not always.

GPs don't seem to think it's HRT or hormonal but they look a bit nonplussed if I ask this.

BP is generally fine but higher in mornings and can spike if I am ill. GPs don't think it's an issue.

I was prescribed cream as if it is a short term condition but it isn't. Unsurprisingly that didn't work.

I didn't have nosebleeds as a child.

FBC is on low side so currently on iron tablets. Not surprising really!

Any similar experiences? It's really beginning to get me down.

I get frequent nose bleeds - a lot at night, but during the day too. Have done since my teens.
The dr said my blood vessels were very close to the surface inside my nose, so the slightest rupture can set it off. Even a change in pressure.
I get hayfever & lots of colds/sinus infections so a lot of nose blowing too which triggers them.
The only solution the dr offered was cauterisation of the inside on my nose! 😳 I declined!!
I've kind of got used to it - have tissues everywhere - pockets, bedside, car. Nose bleeds whilst driving are a real PITA!

I would be asking for an ENT referral

Oh, should have mentioned that's what the GP has done but referrral til August 20th!

I go through phases of having nosebleeds a lot. The last bad run was during that very cold and dry spell, I think that irritated my nose. I was also getting a very itchy nose especially at night, I've changed my feather pillows for manmade, it may have helped (but could be coincidental).

I think once if got some sort of weakness in a blood vessel it's very inclined to start up again so can take a while to resolve.

I occasionally had bad nosebleeds as a teenager, and then during pregnancy - I had one in the night which I couldn't stop (probably partly because I was panicking more than I'd have done normally) - they did some cauterisation then

I am a bit allergy prone and all of it is suddenly worse - itching, rashes etc. I have literally become allergic to everything. But I don't blow my nose and don't rub it very much!

Do the rest of you not find it exhausting?

I had 2 nosebleeds in Stockholm at new year- but it was minus 5 and snow- can't remember last time I had one. Might have been when we lived in Denmark- certainly for me it seems to be if it's very cold and very dry (which is rare in uk)

It's definitely not the weather as its been going on for over a year. Unless I'm allergic to Britain...

Britain has so much variable weather though!

It's a nuisance when I'm having a spate of them - sometimes started by a small nose blow, sometimes with no provocation whatever in the middle of a walk or when I'd just sat down in a restaurant. Only had a couple in the night, fortunately without a bloodbath but waking to the taste of it isn't at all nice.

Yep. I had it cauterised this summer.

I used to have them a lot in summer as a child. Also basically any time I got hot. Doctor said it was thin nasal lining. I was prescribed a nasal spray and I've not had a nosebleed since. Unfortunately can't remember what the spray was to recommend it but there's definitely treatment you can get

I went onto a drug for acne as a late teenager and one symptom was that it initially dried out my skin horribly and gave me constant nosebleeds. In desperation, I put a thin layer of vaseline inside my nostrils on a cotton bud, and that really seemed to help.

Stress and high blood pressure?

I've had periods of heavy nosebleeds due to high BP.

DC gets them a lot. Dr presecribed a cream that you put inside the nostril. They said it was an effective as cauterization but.....we are now on about our 6th round of using it this year.

The cream didn't work for me either.

How old are you? I read that perimenopause can cause nosebleeds as the hormones necessary to keep mucous membranes moist start to change/reduce.

I get them if I get a cold or the air is dry, they aren't generally much and I am always ready with tissues, it's just one side and a weakness up my nose, usually they come in spates and then it heals for a few weeks. DM also had nose bleeds and so does DS, we probably have the family weak nostrils.

Yes, I read this too but the doctors don't pick up on this. However, I have nosebleeds on or off HRT, annoyingly.

It's definitely not colds or the air as I have had them for over a year now, whatever the weather or my health.

Yep, started getting them a few years ago. Never had one as a child, teenager or young adult.

Always at night or early morning and yes it is a faff. (We have white bedding!). Luckily DH loves a laundry challenge and is a whizz getting out blood stains from sheets now.

I would be pushing for a referral to ENT over this as it's not normal to have this many. It could literally be anything - a tumour eroding a blood vessel. It needs to be checked.

I've heard of this after Covid. Have you had Covid?

I had my nose cauterised when I was around 11.
I still get occasional nosebleeds.

When I'm having a run of them I make sure I've got tissues and a bin near at hand.

I've had it since before covid. I suppose anything that might make you blow or sneeze could set off a weak blood vessel.
