Hello misdee,

Try Virgin Health Bank, they operate stem cell collection with an option for storage in a public bank. Pricey, £1500, but no more so than the other companies.
There is also a scheme just launched called Kingscord ( i think), run by Kings College, London & The Anthony Nolan Trust, for umbilical cord blood donation. This would be a complete public donation, which is probably preferable.

Sorry, just checked, you have to actually give birth at Kings College Hospital to be able to donate.

There is no national scheme for free cord blood donation in this country, only a handful of hospitals operate a donation scheme. This is why private firms are in abundance (I am involved in this industry, but can't say too much !)

Where do you live?

The are 4 hospitals listed so if one is near you then go for it! It's a great thing to do.
Good luck!
