What is this on my foot?!

Any idea what this on my foot might be? I’ve had it on my foot for over 10 years it used to just be red and raised and I thought it was a fatty lump but the centre has a crater and is going darker, the redness has spread and it stayed the same for 10 years until this year it grew, got darker and became very dry also! It never was like that?
never heard of this, can’t find anything on google that remotely matches
does anybody have any idea?

I will see a doctor but I can’t just yet lol

Is it an ulcer? Are you diabetic? Or could be cellulitis?

Butteryscones · 03/02/2024 08:24

Possibly just a bit of eczema but it now looks like you may have an infected cyst?

Graperul27 · 03/02/2024 08:31

That could be possible -diabetes is in my family! I’ll make to mention that when I see the gp I have other red patches that have come up near my toes but they aren’t raised just dry
it’s been there for 10 years so Idk if cellulitis (I know I should have gone ages ago 😅 but thought it was just a fatty lump until last night I noticed it was quite different)

I have no idea but I had exactly this in exactly the same place years and years ago, it just went away one day and left me with a faded purplish scar that's harder than the rest of my skin 🤷🏻‍♀️ (I don't even know if you can tell from the flash on the pics!). I think I just kept layering heavy moisturiser on it. I don't have diabetes.

I'd get it checked (as in possibly ask a pharmacist today but more likely GP Monday) now that it's changed. Is it hot to touch?
Draw a ring round the redness to check for spread.

Graperul27 · 03/02/2024 08:42

yeah It’s really strange! It does look like eczema to me but now not so much - could be a infected cyst but it’s not painful
it changed during my pregnancy last year which is why I put off seeing a doctor and I’ll call them Monday to hopefully get an appointment

Do you sit on the floor with kids a lot? On your knees and sitting on your heels?

Graperul27 · 03/02/2024 08:45

for sharing! How it looks in your photo was how it used to look
i had the diabetes test when pregnant that came up negative however I was about 0.2 off being diagnosed with diabetes
Did it change at all for you? I’ve been trying some e40 cream on there recently so I’ll keep that up and see

I have a dry lumpy bit there from sitting on the floor a lot, could it just be that?
It got infected last summer when it got scratched badly by some brambles or something. A bit of antibiotic cream sorted it out.
You need to see a gp though

Graperul27 · 03/02/2024 08:51

It’s not hot to the touch at all but the redness that was there has changed, I’ll try and check with a pharmacist today and see what they say - thank you

I did used to sit on the floor a lot and stopped because of the thing on my ankle or at least made sure I didn’t sit with pressure on that ankle - Thankyou for mentioning that and to the girl above who said about it as that could be it
I will see the doctor for sure about it, when I saw the crater last night I was like oh I need to really see a doctor about this now haha!

I had a patch a bit like that and finally narrowed it down to a pair of sandals that I always wore causing a rub point ( even though I never felt the rubbing and it never felt sore).
Is there anything like that you can think of,?

eandz13 · 03/02/2024 08:58

I can't remember if I had the purply red skin beforehand but it flared up exactly like yours has, it was probably about 7 years ago now. Now it's just tough, scarred skin and hasn't flared up since. The sitting on the floor thing makes absolute sense, that could definitely be what caused mine anyway! Or maybe ankle socks rubbing and causing contact dermatitis?

Auntiesitting · 03/02/2024 09:02

Is it not just a callus? From friction or rubbing and pressure from footwear or kneeling. It’s not an ulcer.

Graperul27 · 03/02/2024 10:51

I would have said that but it’s the colour being red and being like a lump throws me off it’s like putting edema when I touch it but it’s not actually edema - quite odd

I’ve changed my shoes so much in the past 10 years so I wouldn’t be able to narrow it down to anything like that but thank you ^^

dhdbrbr · 03/02/2024 10:54

Mine was like that for years before finally flaring into psoriasis which ended up on elbows and knees too

Graperul27 · 03/02/2024 10:55

That does make the most sense if it’s from sitting on the floor, I don’t think I sit on the floor excessively but I wouldn’t remember from the time it first showed up
Thankyou ☺️

oh wow! Last year I was getting some strange reactions and rashes on my arms I’ll mention that to my gp when I talk about my foot lump
I keep getting flat red patches come up over my foot during the past year, did anything like that happen when yours changed?

OP posts:
CharlesChickens · 03/02/2024 10:59

My two friends and I all had this patch for many years, we all sat on the floor a lot, and that was the pressure point. Mine wasn’t quite as red and dry as yours but in exactly the same place. Now I sit on the floor much less it has pretty much disappeared.

Graperul27 · 03/02/2024 14:15

Many people have mentioned that now! I wonder if that’s what it is but I’ve maybe damaged my skin in some way
was it like a lump? Because what’s on my ankle isn’t the same on the other side and my ankle doesn’t come out as much
I know we can change our bodies by how we do things it’s mad!
