20 month old obsession with genitals

DD, 20 months has started to develop a fascination with her female bits, she touches them when her nappy is off, and has started to put her hands inside her nappy to have a feel.

This, I am not too concerned about as I am going along with the theory that she is exploring all of her body, getting to know it, what it does, how it feels etc.

She has just very recently become aware of toilets, and has asked to go on the toilet several times, squeals with delight when she does it, although does not go.

However, she took her nappy off this evening, asked to go to the toilet, sat her on it for a minute for fu, then kept her nappy of as I like to do sometimes.

I turned round when she had gone quiet to find her holding a pencil (my fault, on the floor) against her genitals, went to take it from her, then she moved away with it, laughing, and it appeared she tried to insert it, seemed very curious.

Is this normal? Of course I took from her immediately, jut worried this is not normal behaviour.

Name change, as DH looks at site sometimes he would have a fit if he thought I was talking about this to other people, although not told him yet as he is out!!!!

Normal.

all her life you have been encouraging her to poke things into holes (shape sorters etc) - now she is putting that knowledge to use!

Years ago, one of my friends was bathing her little girl...maybe a little older than yours but not much. Her Dd was ' playing' with herself and when my friend asked her what she was doing, she told her that ' it feels nice mummy'. I think kids are very aware of themselves. Can't think of anything to advise, just that it's not uncommon for kids to explore themselves.

oh good. I thought it probably was. Certainly not concerned with her touching herself, she slaps herself, walks around feeling herself. Not constantly, not worryingly so, just clearly becoming aware of her own body, just a bit concerned about inserting objects etc, had not really considered that she would think of it!

Perhaps that was just a one off. She may have just happened to have that in her hand when she was having a fiddle IYSWIM. I once saw a friends Dd sitting in the back of their car in the baby seat(she was about 2)and she was having a whale of a time playing! wasn't sure where to look!(pre kids for me!).
