What is happening to my scars?

DaftyLass · 26/01/2024 16:42

A number of my scars , very old flat white ones, are suddenly turning red and growing.
It's only the scars on joints, so my knees, elbows, knuckles, and ankles and toes.
I have old, large scar on my back with no change, other smaller and newer scars with no changes.

I do have an over the phone appointment with a walk in clinic (no family dr) set for the 30th, so I'm not just leaving it, but also I have no idea what's going on and it is a bit unnerving.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar, and what it may be?

When I say old scars, some are from twenty and forty years ago

Possibly keloids?

DaftyLass · 26/01/2024 20:15

I was wondering about that, but they seem to be usually on newer ones?
They do look kind of like them though

These ones had been white/silver for ever

Could you be pregnant?

DaftyLass · 26/01/2024 21:08

@UncomfortableSofa no, DH has had a vasectomy many years ago.

Glad you’re seeing a GP. I’d want them to rule out sarcoidosis.

Mumaway · 26/01/2024 21:18

Could be related to steroid hormone levels .

HappyHolidai · 26/01/2024 21:23

They do look like they've suddenly gone keloid (also possessed of various scars of a range of ages), but it's funny that it's one set/type of scars not either just one or all of them. Maybe something is happening inside your joints which is setting them off.

Very intriguing.

DaftyLass · 26/01/2024 23:47

@MooseBeTimeForSnow that's what I'm worried about , low key, as I had it in my lungs and lymph nodes in the past, but I had been in remission for a long time

You could still be pregnant.

I'd think it could be the cold weather though.

Sorry, didn't mean to drip feed, I am also 46 so super unlikely to be a pregnancy.

Quick update, I had my phone appointment, sent photos of the scars, and will now be followed up with an in office appointment.
He did say from the sounds of it that my sarcoidosis may well be back in a new form , and we need to see if it is back active in my lungs and lymph nodes again.
